Travel and Recreation : Carnival Rides

Carnival Rides

I can't deal with most of them. If it spins round real fast and goes upside down, my breakfast/lunch/dinner goes too.

I don't know how people can bear these rides. Even the Rock n' Roll is too much for me and I've always been like this.

I like this ride though, The Rainbow 🌈. Must be because I'm a homo:

Re: Carnival Rides

I used to like The Scrambler because it didn't involve heights.

Re: Carnival Rides

That is known as The Sizzler where I live.

I have been on that ride several times, but I don't really like it too much for the reasons mentioned, but can just cope.

I don't mind The Trabant ride, or Roulette Wheel as it was known at one theme park I went too. And I like The Pirate Ship, as long as I can sit in the back row because it takes you higher.

Re: Carnival Rides

The closet I came to throwing up was on this horrid ride.

Re: Carnival Rides

I've watched it in action, but would never venture onto it. Watching other people get off it was enough.

I have just as much fun with a ride like that being a passive observer.

—————————

That's a good point. I got on that ride once, twice at the most. I just can't relax and let myself be taken and if you can't do that, then the ride is no fun at all.

Yes, that is a perceptive way to look at it. The ride has to be fun and even pleasurable.

If one is tense and uncomfortable, be it physically and/or mentally, there is no point throwing oneself to caution and needlessly suffering for it in the end.

Did the contents of your ass spill out?

Melting down over top boy

Re: Carnival Rides

Yes, that one is more my speed

Re: Carnival Rides

Didn't you get told to shut up while on a ride‽

Re: Carnival Rides

One time I was screaming on a roller coaster and the guy I was with said to take it easy or calm down

Re: Carnival Rides

What a party pooper! That's what rollercoasters are for: to let go of everything and scream your head off.

Now if you were still screaming a half hour after the ride was over, that would be something else.

Re: Carnival Rides

I think I was screaming his ear off

Re: Carnival Rides

I have a female friend who would go all hysterical on these kinda of rides. She avoids them now though. She got me needlessly worried for her and after it was over, it was like an exaggerated reaction.

It was just too much extreme behavior, like a projection of fear, but born out of something else and the ride becomes the scapegoat.

Knowing what I'm like on many rides, I think if I can handle it, there was no reason for her to get all cray as though she was being attacked by a psycho instead of just going in for the moderate thrill of it all.

Re: Carnival Rides

It's the fear of falling that gets to me so I avoid the scary ones

I do like the Matterhorn at Disneyland though

Mister Toad's Wild Ride teacup ride is more my speed too

Re: Carnival Rides

How fast do those teacups spin around?

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

I thought it was teacups but it's not. Anyway, not fast at all

Re: Carnival Rides

My kind of ride.

Re: Carnival Rides

I've seen those teacup rides, and I don't think I would like em'. While still on the ground, they do spin around fast. Just another version of The Waltzer.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

Yeah, I think I've tried that ride before

Re: Carnival Rides

I don't know if you have them where you are but the Waltzer are the best!

Only problem is carnies are actually gypos

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

I've seen similar rides and have been on one when I was a teen. I threw up after it in the corner of pavilion tent and a little kid was watching me and I felt very embarrassed.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

Was it candyfloss that you threw up or something more appetising?

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

Something more appetising. I think I had hot chips and a hotdog on a stick smothered in ketchup and boy, NZ tomato sauce is divine.

It was a shame really, because they were enjoyable at the time and then the ride ruined it.

I recall too, that there was spew on the seat of the ride that someone else had done before me. I was trying real hard to avoid sliding into it.

Re: Carnival Rides

Sounds like a fun time to me!

In the US they have places with games you play for tickets. If you win you get different coloured tickets in return which you can exchange for prizes.

There's rarely much by way of rides but they remind me of a similar experience.

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

You don't have carnival games where you're located?

Re: Carnival Rides

We have rides and games together, those places in the US I was referring to only had the games and they had aa permeant location unlike traditional carnivals in the UK.

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

Oh yes, I know what you're referring to.

Re: Carnival Rides

Both fun things to visit.

I think in the US there are theme parks for the roller coasters and arcades for the games.

In the UK these are combined into a travelling carnival (Which occasionally might have a circus in the bigger ones).

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

In the USA traveling carnivals are a thing too with both rides and games. Many of them are referred to as State fairs.

Re: Carnival Rides

So that's what those things in movies are!

I always wondered why teenagers didn't hang out at them all the time in their films.

The more you know!

I believe you are referring to Arcades.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: Carnival Rides

Those places are everywhere too.

I am more referring to traveling or annual carnivals that get set up every year at the same place/showgrounds. In Oz and NZ its the Easter Show and Qld has what they call an EKKA, which is just slang for Exhibition.

Of course the midway isn't the only attraction at these places.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

In my city the big one is aa Christmas, but there are always smaller ones milling around the satellite towns.

Ding Dong! 🤡🌎

Re: Carnival Rides

I rarely go to them now and in these Covid times, I'd say these places aren't the best places to hang around. Of course many had been cancelled.

The best time to go is the evening when its all lit up and sometimes there are fireworks which is always a bonus.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

They are usually set up during the last few weeks of August here. I've always associated them with the end of summer and a return to school as a kid.

Re: Carnival Rides

I can manage to enjoy this kind of a ride. They are pretty fun. Not overly insane.

Re: Carnival Rides

Wouldn't that be a little dangerous though, if someone really freaks out and can create trampling?

Re: Carnival Rides

Was the deformed woman real, or just like a dummy thing or hologram? I didn't think freak shows were considered ethical anymore.

At any rate, sounds like something out of a Rob Zombie movie.

Re: Carnival Rides

That's wild. But I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Carnys are pretty notorious. And anything for a buck. I mean have you ever seen "Freaks"?

Re: Carnival Rides

There's a fair every year in my hometown that's mainly ran by gypsies.

One year there was some sort of huge, white rectangle trailer with monitors on it showing people running out scared, and some mad surgeon dude stood outside.

Have you ever seen them bringing in the rides on the 18 wheelers? I've never seen them traveling on the road either with the equipment. They must arrive during the night and have all the rides set up before morning.

Re: Carnival Rides

I love the merry go round. I could never handle this swing ride either…

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Carnival Rides

I'd never go on that thing!

Re: Carnival Rides

I thought it looked harmless, swinging around in the air, but I couldn't even walk straight after it and felt real queasy.

I ain't no fun to take to carnivals….
