Re: Susie Brusie doll

Was the doll a real product?

I have been wanting to watch as I loved the show as a kid.

I recently watched the first episode and it was still funny.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

And Darren on Bewitched was the stereotypical bumbling husband.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

He was a little too stupid to the point where he was kind of useless.

A smoother Darren would have been better. A Carey Grant type of personality would make more sense being married to a witch.

I recently watched the first episode and Darren's ex was at a dinner party and she was a beautiful model. It really didn't fit his character.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Nah, he was the buffoon for comedic effect.

I think the lesson here is that despite current feminist stereotyping about female characters on tv, often it was the hubbies who were the butt of the jokes.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

That's classic female "castrating" behavior.

We can't just have a good time, there has to be a winner and a loser.

If they lose….you did not win.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

The show is a comedy and I get it.

I have seen those films you mentioned and they were fun.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Not only do they re write it, but they keep pushing the line of whats acceptable into a smaller and smaller box. Pretty soon even shows like cheers and mash will have trigger warnings or be eliminated all together

Smells like Ass in here

Re: Susie Brusie doll

I liked her because she was smart too.

I had a scary kindergarten teacher who looked and dressed like her mom Endora, or however you spell it.

Also, Paul Lynde was a favorite of mine!

There was lots of fun creative stuff on the show.

I love Paul Lynde

Re: Susie Brusie doll

He was a very fun TV personality!

Re: Susie Brusie doll

He was! I liked that he was a regular on The Match Game

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Hollywood Squares also.

I wish I could do his laugh.

Charles Nelson Reilly was another wacky person, but not as funny. He had a signature laugh also.

Oh, yes, it was Hollywood Squares not the Match Game

Paul Lynde played the proverbial gay uncle.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

At that point in time, 99% of people did not know Paul was gay!

Even Liberace, people did not get that he was gay. Everyone thought he was a "showman" and artistic, lol.

I can remember people talking about it like, what's with him?!

He's an artist!

Paul had a bitter sarcastic sense of humor and people really liked him.

I remember people were SHOCKEd the way he died. It was like WHAT THE FUCK!?

Re: Susie Brusie doll

He was just 55

Re: Susie Brusie doll

I'm sure that was hardliving 55 though.

I still am not entirely sure what "amil Nitrate" or however that is spelled, is exactly.

He was some kind of erection drug used mostly by homosexuals.

You don't hear about it anymore.

Anyway, it gave him a heart attack.

I always think it's horrible and sad when people are doing something they think will be fun and then die. You go to an amusement park and die when the rollercoaster falls apart, etc.

It's what I said about the corona vaccine. I need to get that to be safe, then you die of a blood clot that you know came from the vaccine.

All of that just grosses me out.

I remember it as being something you popped open and sniffed and it gave you a high

Re: Susie Brusie doll

However, I bet it was an inside joke among the script writers and production people that Uncle Arthur was gay.

It's just that gays were invisible at the time to most people, even if they were flaming queens. However in entertainment and Hollywood, "gay" was more acceptable. Of course there was a huge cultural gap between the people who made tv and the folks who watched it.

There's a few other infamous gay characters on 60's tv. Dr Smith on Lost in Space is another obvious one.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

The Dr. Smith actor was married and stuff.

I don't know if he was gay or was the character?

A few months ago I watched a lot of the show because I was not alive when it was on. However, it started out as a hard science fiction program and that actor took it over and made it insane and ridiculous.

His character should have been murdered fifty times over lol.

Also, when I was a kid, no one thought anyone was "gay" especially popular media figures.

That was actually POSITIVE!

People could sit there and enjoy Liberace, like everyone. They would enjoy his mannerisms and crazy outfits.

Now few would watch him because it would be "gay" to enjoy him.

Elvis would be "gay" for wearing his white jumpsuit.

All of that really cut down on creativity and self-expression.

Yes, it started off as a serious sci fi show, and it was enjoyable as such. I read an article one time, that suggested that Lost In Space went down the road to “camp” because that Campy Batman series was taking ratings away from it. The cast even posed for a goofy photo, after Mad Magazine ripped them for it.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Jews tend to hate any serious story that doesn't include judaism. It's a fact they believe "heroic" stories lead to Nazism.

Dr. Smith was a jew and I read he took control of the program, due to being a jew, and made a mockery out of it.

Jews were not in control of Star Trek. Now they are and turned the show into an ugly and not a hopeful story.

It's why Thor is a comedy, etc.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Interesting TA. Yeah, I think they even did a gender bender on Thor, as well as many others. Which is why I never watch anything (with certain exceptions) produced much past the 1970’s anymore.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

It's crazy.

What I said about jews is fact, not my opinion.

I have read many articles about it.

One of my favorite comic writers and artists John Byrne from the 80s did this interview where he said he's part jewish and ashamed he worked in comics because they're Nazi.

Meanwhile, Superman was created by two jews to counter Nazi propaganda. Byrne was famous for working on Superman…

I watch old movies as lot. Current Chinese movies can be good because they still have traditional values in their films.

So, I do watch new stuff but a lot of it makes me shake my head.

There's a lot of B or C level movies currently that still have traditional stories. I like crime films and Bruce Willis, etc make low budget but normal films.

It's sad!

Re: Susie Brusie doll

It was actually Jonathan Harris (who was allowed to write all of his own dialogue) that inserted the goofiness and humor into his role (and therefore into the show) The other actors pretty much hated him for it.

Interesting. I love creepy hidden sht like this. Will do a search.

Other notable dolls of the 60’s, were Talky Tina from The Twilight Zone episode: Living Doll, who was really a Chatty Cathy doll (That was one deadly little plastic bitch :D ) and that gawd awful Mrs Beasley doll (If looks could kill, hers could).

Then there was Bob Cummings doll. He always had one of those cat that swallowed the canary grins, as if he were always up to something naughty :)

Cool. Yeah I believe I've seen the Twilight zone episode. Great stuff.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Meh, it was probably a parody mocking the cutesy dolls of the time. And I doubt its creators had domestic violence in mind. Children sometimes bruise their knee or such when they play.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

A glue huffer, huh?

I like Suzie Brusie. See how the PC police and half the posters on this thread are jumping to the conclusion Bewitched was condoning child abuse over the silly name of a doll?

Of course children never get scrapes and bruises during their regular rough and tumble play.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Lilith, that 60's tv sitcom doll had nothing to do with child abuse. Calling it "creepy" implies child abuse and the hysterical allegation that Bewitched condoned child abuse. Call a spade a fucking a spade.

I dunno, I went through my entire childhood and never once did anyone think a bruised knee or elbow or a sports injury had anything to do with child abuse.

In a normal world without hysterics bruises are not "creepy".

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Duh, anything a doll does is devised by the child who plays with the doll. Do you think dolls actually arrange their own tea parties?

And it was not a real doll manufactured by Mattel. It was a parody of cutesy dolls sold in that era. So no child was actually inflicting bruises.

But only now looking at it through PC filters are you claiming it had anything to do with child abuse. Kids play and kids get bruises. Big deal. That was not the intent in the 1960's.

Pffffffft. I think this all comes together when you refer to spanking on the rear end as child abuse. Many if not most people find a paddle on the butt to be an acceptable form of discipline. My parents never overdid it but I was spanked a few times as a child. That's not child abuse.

You're exaggerating.

Re: Susie Brusie doll

Yes, my parent's rule and the standard rule was that you never dare hit a child anywhere except on the buttocks.

But you know as well I do that there are extremists calling that child abuse these days. And those are the same people who think a fictional doll on a sitcom had anything to do with child abuse.
There were also acceptable phrases like Larry telling Serena that he wanted to throw her over his knee and give her a spanking.
Lilith, you realize that has playful sexual overtones among adults, right?

Why is that not acceptable?

But have nice day as well.
