Food and Drink : Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

It’s become synonymous with being low class or uncultured. Personally I’m not a fan, but mostly because Italian food is basically all carbs.

Anderson Cooper recently made a crack about the DC insurrection rioters eating at Olive Garden.

What did Olive Garden ever do that was so terrible?

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

I find it weird, too. I used to enjoy Olive Garden before they did a big menu change some years ago. (And my mother’s family is Italian-American!) The prices were not cheap. If a poor person ate there, it would have been only for a special occasion. I seem to remember their meals being priced between $9 and $18, plus tax and tip. Poor people are not eating that. It’s your middle class families. As for Anderson Cooper, I like him, but remember who his mother is. The rich in the U.S. look down on chain restaurants and the middle class families who frequent them. They pride themselves on eating at little exclusive boutique-like restaurants. It’s just snobbery.

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

that's pretty neurotic, LOL. And he's making fun of people for eating at the Olive Garden?

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

Anderson wasn't insulting Olive Garden. He actually had to address this last night on his show, because Hannity and Carlson were trying to twist his words. He was just saying the DC rioters were proud of themselves and probably went somewhere to celebrate afterwards; he was trying to think of hotels and a restaurant nearby that they might go to. He didn't even mean to say Olive Garden; he was trying to think of another restaurant with the word "Olive" in it and couldn't remember the name, so he said Olive Garden.

You can see Anderson's explanation at 2:34 in this video; it's not the full segment, because the YouTuber interrupts it after a while. But there was another part later, where he said people think he looks down on the Olive Garden "because of who my mother was" or something like that (in other words, because he's rich), but that he doesn't look down on it at all.

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

True, but there’s been a negative stigma attached to Olive Garden for a while now.

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

I don't know if I've noticed that. This is the only related thing I can think of:

Thank you for the Anderson Cooper explanantion.

YW

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

There shouldn't be a stigma about it. It's a lot of great food. I have a $50 gift card right now from there.

I usually get the tour of Italy. It's multiple meals in one.

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

It's not low class…it's just not really an Italian restaurant. There's a lot better out there for that.

If you truly enjoy Mexican food, you wouldn't pick Taco Bell.
But there are plenty who enjoy Taco Bell, including me.

It's like eating at Denny's…you might like stuff on the menu, but you know you've had better.

Are you okay?

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

The food is good, I don't have a problem with it and I'm Italian

1. Not authentic Italian food
2. Not inexpensive
3. Slow service

Not making Italian-American food great again.

Re: Why is there a stigma about eating at Olive Garden?

No clue. It's not bad imho.
