The Watercooler : 1 Day More

1 Day More

I think I only have 1 more day of work at Macy's. I have been applying for other jobs, and my one at Macy's I got to do as seasonal. I would feel safer with a part time job and not just SSI. I wanted a less physical job, like a desk or computer job, to recover from folding clothes all day.

Re: 1 Day More

Your job at Macys is a good start in your working resume. Hang in there. the next job could be one that you may like even more. No matter what though, each job gives you more experience.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Yes with more predictability. Thanks for the sound advice! I might just need a break from working.

You should tell Macy’s that you would like to stay on. Then you can start looking for another job that you would really like.

It’s like I mentioned in the previous thread. It’s easier to find a job when you already have one, vs not having one.

Re: 1 Day More

It's the opposite for me!!

When I was unemployed I got a job right away, and then I tried to find another job whilst working the current one and I got nothing, so I just quit because fuck it. Life's too short to be working somewhere you hate. I'm kinda lucky tbh because of covid. I'm just enjoying some time off before the hunt continues after christmas. I'm undecided whether I wanna do admin or not.

Re: 1 Day More

That’s cool. Glad it worked out for you. The theory behind it is that prospective employers can smell the desperation in prospective employees. It’s probably all real subtle, and they might not even be aware of it. There are other variables to consider. If there are plenty of jobs available, it’s an employees market.

But it’s always best if possible, to approach such a situation from the standpoint of want, not need. Hence my advice to Christina.

There was a radio show host here a few years back. A rather controversial figure, so he will remain unnamed. But he gave some great advice, in that he advocated having an “FU” fund. This was in case you found yourself in a situation as you mentioned above, to where you were working for someone that you absolutely hated, and needed to make a hasty retreat. I believe the “FU” fund was 6 months of living expenses. A "buffer" if you will, long enough for most people to find another job.
