I'd say the two most important nations in terms of Classical music are German and Russian. France had Ravel and Debussy but they do not compare to Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven and Mozart. Americans only enter the equation with 20th century avant garde.

Germany is thee country, and yes Russia also has something like it it seems. I mainly know of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart.. The songs I know are more limited probably than a classical orchestral musician. I think the US has their own grasp on classical music and peak points perhaps, like in maybe long piano concertos. I don't know how bad I am starting violin as an adult age 29, but when I hear the live orchestras here in Orlando they seem off beat and not very emotional, not something technically impressive.

This is the orchestra where I lived as a teenager. I wish I could have done more.. This is the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. I'm thinking of staying in the US as a performer, but I'd like to live in Germany awhile to experience culture there, in classical music especially as a prime incentive. It sounds like a hassle, but I wanted to learn German.

You are a talented person and you have many varied interests. By all means, learn violin! You don't have to be a world class musician. Just learn it as a hobby for the joy of learning. What happens later happens.

Do you like Aaron Copland? He was the quintessential 20th century American composer.

Thanks! Yea, you don't have to be the best, you just have to be good.. I actually already know music, but there's always other instruments? People claimed I should keep playing piano, too.

Yes, Aaron Copland I like a lot, especially that I know the tune "Simple Gifts" he has in Appalachian Springs. He must have been a hard worker, see he is from New York City. I bet Juilliard was in love with him.
