Re: Jesus is the Son of God.

Jesus was a false prophet!

Re: Jesus is the Son of God.

When the Roman burned the temple all the gold inside melted and ran into the cracks in the masonry. The Roman soldiers upended every single stone looking to recover that gold.
Like Ron Wyatt's chariot wheels, that's another piece of Christian apologetical apocrypha without any basis in fact.
https://christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/35766/what-is-the-source-of-the-story-about-the-melted-gold-in-the-destroyed-temple-in

In point of fact, after 70 CE, the remnants of the Temple continued to be a focal point of Jewish religious observance across the next several decades. War against Rome continued to be waged, including the Kitos War (115-117 CE), an uprising occurring in Cyrene, Cyprus, Egypt, and Mesopotamia during which hundreds of thousands of Roman citizens were slaughtered by Jewish Rebels. It was finally put down by Roman legionaries led by General Lusius Quietus, whose name was corrupted into 'Kitos', giving the war its name.

The last straw for the Temple Mount came in 132-136 CE with the Bar Kochba Revolt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_Kokhba_revolt
Well-meaning but misled Emperor Hadrian wanted to do something for Judea, so he began a project to rebuild Jerusalem and its temple, unfortunately as a Roman cultural center. Jewish efforts to put a stop to it began immediately. The city was to be renamed Aelia Capitolina, and the Temple that of Jupiter Capitolina, an edifice in which was to be installed a statue of Hadrian as Jupiter. This was regarded as a recapitulation of the Temple's desecration by Antiochus IV nearly three hundred years prior; the statue in particular was characterized as another instance of "the abomination that makes desolate" (Daniel 8:13, 9:26,27, 11:31, 12:11; cf. 1 Maccabees 1:57, 2 Maccabees 6:2). Hadrian's desecration was the event which informed Mark 13:14, and which definitively dates the gospel to the middle of the 2nd century.

(Apologists prefer to place the expositional focus upon the sack of Jerusalem and its temple in 70 CE, because at that point it could still be argued that ostensible eye witnesses to the words of Jesus and to his crucifixion might have still been alive. Hence confabulations like the 'melted gold' story. But the Bar Kochba Revolt of the 2nd century is where all of the narrative points really fit.)

Hadrian was livid at the rebellion. In the aftermath, the Temple of Jupiter Capitolina was built upon the Temple mount, and this was how it happened that "not one stone was left upon another." Of course, this wasn't 'prophecy' but rather postdiction; for the anonymous author of the Gospel of Mark, this was all recent history.

The city was renamed Aelia Capitolina. The Jews were banished from the region, which was renamed Syria-Palæstina.

Re: Jesus is the Son of God.

If the temple was built the way 1st Kings said then the explanation is entirely plausible. There is no logical reason to think the description of the construction incorrect.

However while the gold explains why it isnt terrible relevant. The fact remains that no two stones from the temple remain stacked atop the stones the sat on before.

Prophecy fulfilled.

Except that the fanciful temple described in 1 Kings is Solomon's Temple, for which there is no evidence it ever existed. It was supposed to have been destroyed by Nebuchadrezzar II in the 6th century BCE.

Zerubbabel's Temple, built later in the 6th century, was sponsored by the Persians. It was not adorned with all sorts of fantastical gold, but was rather austere. This was the one stripped of whatever adornments it had by the aniconist Deuteronomists, as part of the process of making it 'YHWH-only' (it had originally served the larger Hebrew/Canaanite pantheon), and was subsequently defiled by Antiochus IV.

Next came Herod's Temple, a remodel and enlargement of Zerubbabel's temple so extensive that not much of the preceding one remained. This was the one which was burned by the Romans in 70 CE. There wasn't much gold in it to speak of, besides a few ritual furnishings gilded with gold leaf (these were carried off by Romans and brought to Rome, as depicted on the Arch of Titus), so there weren't any molten rivulets flowing down into any cracks in the stone. Its rubble survived into the 2nd century, when it was sheared off the temple mount to make way for the Temple of Jupiter Capitolina.
The fact remains that no two stones from the temple remain stacked atop the stones the sat on before.
The so-called 'Western Wall' is a surviving part of the concourse of Herod's Temple, and yes, it has many such stones stacked into it. Also, there's no way of knowing how much stone material from Herod's Temple was incorporated into the building of Temple of Jupiter, and reused yet again in Christian and Muslim constructions. So no, the words weren't literally fulfilled.

Prophecy fulfilled.
It's not a "prophecy" if it was written after the fact, as 'Mark' was. It's just vaticinium ex eventu.

Re: Jesus is the Son of God.

Lmao, yes, that guy has been exposed as a fraud for YEARS.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

What do you mean when you say he was a liar and a thief?

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Jesus is quoted many times in the Bible saying that a believer can ask for anything through prayer and receive it. He even goes so far as to say that mountains and trees can be thrown into the sea simply by praying for it. This is clearly a lie, and can be proven to be a lie by any believer. Simply pray for me to be converted to Christianity right away. Or better yet ask God to move the mountains behind my house. He could make a lot of converts that way. If I’m converted today, I’ll post a public apology on my web site and devote my life to kissing God’s ass. If I’m not converted it would only be fair for you to apologize and devote your life to kissing my butt.

Here are the quotes from Jesus that proves that he lied:

1) And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:21-22 NAS)

2) Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8 NAB)

3) Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20 NAS)

4) Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25 NAB)

5) And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-13 NAB)

6) And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14 NAB)

7) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 NAB)

8) It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. (John 15:16 NAB)

9) On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. (John 16:23-24 NAB)

A lot of Christians ignore what Jesus actually says in the Bible. They also tend to add things to the actual words to make them say something else. If you honestly and truthfully read these quotes, without adding to them, it is very easy to see that Jesus is not saying that God will think about your prayers. He says God will grant all your prayers. Clearly, God doesn’t grant all prayers and this proves that Jesus was a habitual liar.

Re: Jesus is the Son of God

Most of these are the same quote from the perspectives of different apostles. Most of these are also directed solely at those 12.

You failed to differentiate and thought they applied to everyone.

Oh, hey. Didn't see you there. Make yourself useful. Shine my shoes.

Re: Jesus is the Son of God

Most of these are the same quote from the perspectives of different apostles.
If that were the case, all the more damning, since it's the testimony of those witnesses that he said something so stupid, which at no point ever holds up as being true.
Most of these are also directed solely at those 12.
There's nothing in the texts that indicates that. 'Sayings of Jesus' and narrative exchanges were merely literary devices whereby the anonymous ecclesiastics/theologians conveyed their own instructions to a general audience of followers. If they were not, if it was true that Jesus was only speaking to individuals at a particular time and place, the presence of these pericopes in the texts could not be justified. It puts to death the very idea of the gospels being inspired scripture, since the application of Jesus's instructions to everyone would be a mistake. Presumably the Holy Spirit (provided it existed) would not allow this.
You failed to differentiate and thought they applied to everyone.
Well, historically, Christians have always held that they applied to everyone. It's only 21st century evangelical apologists, chafing under the pressure of being obligated to follow the savior's words (which they secretly despise), that have cooked up the excuse that they were directed only at the present company with whom Jesus was depicted as conversing at the time. It's a really recent innovation, the whole idea that "Jesus wasn't talking to us." If not you, then no one. There's no point in directing believers to read the gospels. You might as well discard them.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Jesus didn't even exist.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

He existed! There's historical records of his stealing, lying, drinking and whoring.
The most awful human that ever lived! Don't follow the King of Lies but do believe that the wicked man was real. That's the only way to see through his lies.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Cool.
Could you tell me more about the whoring.
Did he ever whore himself out? Like, did he get payed to get fucked by a donkey or something?
Just wondering.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Scholars like myself and others have debated that question for centuries. We can today be more or less 78% certain of that Jesus did in fact let donkeys sodomize him and he also charged people for watching the wicked act.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Cool.
I bet Jesus was a pedophile that voted republican too.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Jesus was a monarchist that thought of himself as a king. He was no real king though. Just a King of Fools. He was the lowest of the low. As for that other thing. Nobody has ever found any evidence that says Jesus wasn't a paedophile so we can safely assume that he indeed was one.

Re: Jesus was a false prophet!

Cool.

Cool. Cool. Cool.

Re: Jesus is the Son of God

Which time? The 2nd time or the 3rd? The second time will be the rapture. That one will happen in the blink of an eye. God who knows men's hearts will gather those who believe from the face of the earth. One second they will be there the next they won't. When this happens and you are left behind you will remember this exchange. What comes next is the Tribulation. 7 years of hell on earth under a world ruler known as the antichrist. Then with come the 3rd return. Read Revelation 19:11-16 if you want to know the details.
