James Bond : I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

They've never really interested me before, and I saw Quantum of Solace in the cinema when it came out with some mates from high school. It was pretty sleep-inducing, but I've since heard that was one of the worst ones. Since I've got quite a bit of time on my hands, I thought I'd check some of them out.

I've got a whole bunch lined up from different eras that vaguely interest me for different reasons.

Just looking for an idea on where is best to start or how anyone here might rank any of these:

From Russia with Love
Goldfinger
Moonraker
Octopussy
GoldenEye
Tomorrow Never Dies
The World is Not Enough
Die Another Day
Casino Royale
Skyfall
Spectre

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

You can’t forget “Live And Let Die” I thought that was one of the best.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Might have to add it in if that's the case. But I'm trying to limit the Roger Moore films because I've heard they tend to go in a different (lighter) tonal direction that doesn't really appeal to me.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Fair enough

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Watch those first five and realize the effects are from many decades ago. Just enjoy them for what they are. Move on to the others afterwards. Enjoy the ride.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Cheers.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I think Goldeneye and Casino Royale are the only two good ones in my lifetime. The series is dire now, and far removed from what it was meant to be. I fully expect a woman, black dude or tranny to continue it now, and I couldn’t really care. I won’t be watching.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Yeah, what I was really hoping to get out of this post was a general idea on the better films so I could watch those and then decide if others are worth watching. GoldenEye and Casino Royale do seem to be fan-favourites.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

It’s funny, Casino Royale was seen as making Bond dark and modern. But then it proceeded to bring follow ups that had no point existing. Now I think the series has lost its roots and needs to go back to the old Sean Connery and Roger Moore days, perhaps with a darker, more modern touch.

The latest Mission Impossible movies are far superior to Bond. They’re good popcorn watching entertainment, nothing more and nothing less.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I think Skyfall was awesome ,it showed the roots of where Bond came from and what his family situation may of been like and you could almost take crazy hints that “M” may of actually been his real mother.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

You don't have Dr No, on your list. It's the first, and was more like the book, and better acted than a lot of what came later. I like it best of all.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

They should go back to the old style. Silly gadgets, camp humour.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I may have to check it out.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

One of the four best, along with From Russia With Love, Goldfinger (the best) and Thunderball!

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Those early Connery ones have never been bettered, in my opinion.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I will drink to that! I watched one or two with Roger Moore, and abandoned the franchise.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Yes. There was never another Bond girl quite like her.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Watch in order:

1. Dr. No
2. From Russia With Love
3. Goldfinger (the best one!)
4. Thunderball

After those first four, the quality goes down sharply. And Sean Connery is James Bond. All the others are just lame actors playing James Bond.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Unless I get really into the films, I'll probably skip Thunderball. But I'll probably check out the other Connery ones.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

No problemo. The first three are the best!

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I've only seen Goldeneye and it was great, I've seen it multiple times and it's always thrilling. Plan on checking out the others myself. I do hear some of them have continuity so maybe you should be careful you don't watch the second or third chapter in the one story and get it spoiled on you.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Thanks for the info.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

They should do a remake of the goldeneye game. It was epic

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

I played it a bit later than I probably should have. It was fun for what it was. Local split-screen multiplayer definitely needs to make a comeback.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

They did remake it in 2010 with Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosnan, it wasn't well received.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Shut your cunt mouth

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Casino Royale is my favorite. You really should start with the older movies and work your way to the newer ones. Everyone has their favorite Bond.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Quantum is one of the worst Bond films because it was written and produced during the Hollywood writer’s strike. The movie was put together with duct tape and even Daniel Craig had a say In a poorly constructed script.

You should go back and watch some of the classic movies, then Goldeneye ( best Bond movie IMO) and then all the Craig movies in chronological order.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

One thing I’ll say about Daniel’s Bond is that he takes real shit kickings and gives real shit kickings and Casino Royal sort of shows why he became fickle towards women after Eva Greens character who he was truly in love with ,back stabbed him, even if it was a deal made to save bonds life.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Sounds like the kind of story I can get behind.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Dude spoilers. He has not watched it yet.

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Well if Quantum of Solace is the first and only Bond movie you saw, it is quite possibly the worst in the entire series in my opinion, so do not judge it based off that of course :).

Re: I'm looking to get into the James Bond films

Different Bond actors set different tones to the movies. Personally, the Pierce Brosnan movies give me nothing. Most people have a preference for either Connery or Moore. For me it's a toss-up between Connery, Moore and Timothy Dalton. Of all the non-Fleming Bond films, I think License to Kill is the best one. Of the Daniel Craig Bonds, I liked Skyfall the best. Lazenby might have been a good Bond, but just one movie isn't enough to tell. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is not bad at all, though.
