Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

Thanks to Orson for outing me…

I am a modern orthodox (Sabbath observational) Ashkenazi (by genealogical heritage) Messianic Jew.

Essentially, Eastern European Jew who accepts Jesus as the Messiah and observes the Sabbath out of principle.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

lol i don't know.. whatever the acid tells me, and it's always sth entirely different each time i'm getting "spiritual"

other than that, and in all seriousness, i think, Voltairine de Cleyre is my spiritual mentor.

suck it.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

I am a pagan and worship Nature, which I believe to be comprised of the Masculine and the Feminine: the God and the Goddess. I adhere to many of the tenets of Gaianism. I believe that we live many lives. I consider myself to be a 'witch,' honour the sabbats, and am definitively a participant in the Celtic strain of paganism.

Pagan too. Old gods.

Very nice. Any particular pantheon?

Norse, of course. ( I only said "of course" because it rhymes. )

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

I suppose you might call me a freethinker, but I don't really like labels.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

I’m Christian but I don’t view the Bible as something to be taken literally. It’s just a collection of stories with the same general theme of being good to others and being humble — which I guess you can say is a part of being good. I don’t think good things happen to me because of divine intervention/because I am a good Christian, and I don’t think (though I still believe in the idea of) there being a heaven or hell. I still observe all the traditions of Christianity such as prayer, attending church regularly, worship, and celebrating the holidays.

I live. I die. I live again.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

I was raised Catholic but I can't tell you the last time I attended a church service that wasn't a wedding, baptism or a funeral. I took catechism classes up to the ninth grade and received all the sacraments up to Confirmation. I pretty much stopped attending mass once I entered college and stopped saying nightly prayers around that time as well.

Recently I've been attending a generic Christian service with my mom, mostly just to make her happy.

Now I simply surrender to the universe.

That's really sweet of you, AJ. I'm sure your mom appreciates the gesture.

Christian. Was born and raised a Southern Baptist, now I'm non-denominational.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

Doesn’t that make you Christian?

Cheerio.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

Raised Church of England, went to a gospel hall around the corner, now agnostic leaning towards atheist.

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

I don't believe in God or any religion

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: Real talk: What is your spirituality, if you're comfortable discussing it?

ex-Roman Catholic. Stopped attending Mass as soon as I left for university. I'm ambivalent about Catholicism but would admit some of who I am was shaped by it.

I tend to hope and believe in Something beyond us and after death, but I couldn't tell you what that is.

Fun fact - did some some DNA testing with my Dad and his cousin, and we found out that there were strong indications that he and she were part Ashkenazi Jew, like a great-great grandparent, but that was a total surprise and family mystery.
