The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

They're Austrian. That's sort of German light. This was my late Mother's favorite movie, and I love it too.

There's not much about it to dislike if you love movies in general.

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

Absolutely nothing to dislike. It's was my Mom's fav.

Of course.

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

My mother took me to see this a few times as a kid. It was released in theatres often in the 70s during the summer months.

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

Did you enjoy it, Joe?

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

It was enjoyable, but long. I would have rather been watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang. I do appreciate it more now though.

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

Fair enough, but I've never see either one of those films.

I was a kid of the 70s, those were both popular kids movies.

I should rewatch The Sound of Music though, I have a special boxed set of it on Bluray. I had originally bought it for my mother. It came with a bunch of extras, such as a booklet and a small music box that plays ""These are a few of My Favorite Things".

I loved "Shitter,Shitter,Gang Bang"🖒🖒🖒

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

I think it played on TV every year around Thanksgiving during the 70s, before video tapes.

My dad and I used to like singing My Favorite Things

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

I remember my sister got the soundtrack one year for Christmas.

The Sound of Music was also one of my mother's favourite movies and is one of mine as well. I had the opportunity to take her to see it in a theatre during a sort of "throw back to the oldies" event and it was an amazing experience. Once you know the tunes, it's difficult to not sing along!

Proudly offering too-close encounters since 1977.

Wow. I never thought The Sound of Music would strike such a chord here in The Wild Wild West!

My favorite is the opening scene. I want to be there!

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

Yes, that is a great scene. I believe that's in Austria, since most of the filming took place on location there.

PS When I was in Salzburg, I took a four hour Sound of Music bus tour which visited most of the filming locations. It was amazing!

Re: The sound of Music: One of my favorite scenes.

I saw the movie when it was released. The opening shot of Maria in the field is breathtaking.

My only criticism of the film is that terrible I Feel Confident number. I hate it when they take a perfect score from the play, tear out certain songs and replace them with inferior material. I know they needed a transition song to get Maria from the convent to her job, but the result is truly underwhelming.

One of the most egregious examples of redoing a score was Grease, an ode to the 1950's with 1970's disco music. No one seemed to mind and the soundtrack made a fortune, but it was all wrong for the period.

The Sound of Music was near the end of the great era of optimistic stage/film musicals that the general populace could sing while walking out of the theater.

Much as I like them, I've never tried singing to Sweeney Todd or Chicago when I was in the shower.
