Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

It's a strange little film with a low budget, but very atmospheric and fun for me to rewatch on several occasions. Perhaps I'm nostalgic towards it? I've never seen any of the sequels though. I'm just curious if any others here appreciate it.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

I've seen it many times. It's like someone made a movie out of a weird, surreal nightmare they had.

👍

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Phantasm is the best. Too bad the sequels lack that surreal atmosphere and tend to ask more questions than they answer, but the first is basically perfect. Reggie is the coolest.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

I don't remember too much about it, but I did appreciate it

All I remember is the flying knife orb thing and that there's like another dimension or world involved where maybe they were taking people?

Definitely need to watch it again lol

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Keep in mind that while you're thinking you're not remembering the full picture, I do believe that there was never a full picture conceived by the team involved. I think they were trying to invoke a certain imagery and vibe, and while they accomplished that wonderfully, the movie still doesn't make much sense.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

You're right and it does have a dream/nightmare feel to it.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

That's all I remember too. I suppose I could watch it cuz I don't think I have. I've only seen the movie trailers from tv. The movie never generated that much interest. You're one of the few I've seen or heard discuss it. I don't even think that movie is on any popularity lists.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

It might be considered a cult classic to some?

It pretty unique and creative, it was also filmed on a very low budget, but still managed to impress some.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

I guess I could watch it. I feel like this is a trick or something.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

It's no trick and comes from a place of warmth and without malice.

*smiles*

Unless you want trickery involved, Dorothea?

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

I really have to find a free copy because I really cannot afford to pay for anymore movies right now.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Ok

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Yeah, and drop acid if you do decide to watch it again!

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Yes! Love it. The Tall Man is a classic villain. Great score too. The theme was featured in a Swedish metal band's song that became a favourite with their fans. The whole outro is the Phantasm theme that becomes a heavy rock version if it. They always end their shows tl
With that.

I love quite a few of Coscarelli's movies.

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Yesss Loki! I figured you might like this one too based on what I've seen you post here.
What about the sequels? Are they worth viewing in your opinion, or is it better as a stand alone?

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

I've only seen I, II, and III, and I would say they're worth it, but you might be a bit disappointed if you watch them in very close succession. In the second, Mike is recast and many were disappointed by that, but it shouldn't bother you if you let a little bit of time pass between movies, or if you're already prepared for it. The practical effects are good (Greg Nicotero involved) and it's still quite bizarre, although not as surreal with more of an action vibe. Pretty fun. The third was fun, too but it wasn't as good as the first two.

I was actually intending to rewatch the first 3 and get to the final 2 installments this summer, which is now! I'll most likely get to it within the next 2 weeks.

Here's that Swedish metal band using the theme in a heavy way (video should start at the right point)

Re: Any fans of the movie Phantasm?

Big fan. Such a great freaky and surrealistic dark fever dream of a film.

Yes, this is really me.
