Horror : Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights

Is there a movie version of this that's more of a gothic/supernatural/ghost story? Looking through the countless versions of Wuthering Heights on IMDb most of them seem to be romance dramas.

Re: Wuthering Heights

The book doesn't have any supernatural elements to it other than a character apparently being visited nightly by a vision of another character in their dreams

It's much more a story of despair, neglect, incest and unrequited love.

Some versions are darker (Like Tom Hardy's version) but all in all it's a period piece about a shift in the class system within Yorkshire with some characters thrown in to help indicate this.

Re: Wuthering Heights

Oh well thanks anyway.

Re: Wuthering Heights

No problem and happy to help.

There's always Pride and Prejudice and Zombies if you want a lighthearted dark tone to a classic book

Re: Wuthering Heights

The opening, from the renter's pov, cathy's ghost nearly attacks him. And later heathcliff says he's been haunted by her after he moved her body. So there's some ghost stuff but not a lot

Re: Wuthering Heights

I don't remember the incest, what was it?

Re: Wuthering Heights

The one with kaya scodelario is a little darker but they still don't get cathy right imo

Re: Wuthering Heights

I will check them out.

Re: Wuthering Heights

There's a Japanese adaptation from 1988 that might come closer to what you are seeking

Luis BuΓ±uel's version from 1953 and Jacques Rivette's version from 1984 are unique adaptations

I like the 1970 version though

Are you okay?

Re: Wuthering Heights

Re: Wuthering Heights

Book and movies always leave me cold. Such whiny, selfish and unscrupulous characters. No sympathy for any of them.
