Science Fiction : The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

This followup film to Cloverfield has similar elements to Event Horizon although its not as successful in mixing horror and science fiction. It's biggest mistake, however, is tying it into the Cloverfield franchise which basically amounts to shoving a watermelon through a keyhole: it just doesn't fit. Apparently the original script wasn't tied to the Cloverfield universe at all but producer JJ Abrams did a massive cut and paste to rework the film into the franchise as a sequel. Fans expecting to get any sense of continuity from the two previous films are certain to be disappointed.

But as a stand alone film it's adequate enough in treading familiar territory while avoiding too many recycled parts. The concept of merging alternate realities into one amalgamated mix hasn't yet been done to death and that fresh take is perhaps it's best quality.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018): 7/10

It was pretty good. I give it a 7/10.

😺 Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't. 🤨 Let's go, Brandon! 🤨 Try that in a small town.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018): 7/10

Did you watch 10 Cloverfield Lane? It works better as a sequel. Apparently it was also not originally connected to the Cloverfield franchise but was reworked to fit in. But it includes enough familiar elements to the original to still feel believable as a non-linear followup.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018): 7/10

Yes. It was the second best film in the series, with Cloverfield being the best.

Re: The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

The first one was raw, rough and real. The second I didn't enjoy as much because it ruined the mystery for me. Not impressed with the third one.

Re: The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

Sorry I'm late with the question; meant to ask it much earlier. Which did you end up liking more. This or Moon?

Re: The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

Moon by far is the better film. It actually has provocative ideas that get the viewer invested in the main character versus the standard sci fi explosions of The Cloverfield Paradox. Cloverfield Paradox is the type of film to watch if you don't want to think too deeply and are looking for a fun ride but if you're looking for a thoughtful, introspective film then Moon is by far the better choice.
