Resident Evil: The Final Chapter : Why some people dislike this ?
because some people have standards
When movies made decades ago for much lower budgets can manage to not have terrible camera work and god awful editing than there is no excuse for this trash.
Re: because some people have standards
Camera work is debatable and editing also. Just because for big amount of people here editing is trash it doesn't mean that it is BAD overall, there are people that liked it and quite positive reviews from critics aren't from nowhere. I can't imagine this film being edited in different way. End I don't remember "shaky cam" scenes from this movie, maybe it wasn't distracting me. I think that deeply inside many people that are trashing this, liked it a bit, if no, you must be inhumans without sense of excitement . Like really people this movie was so intense and fast that I can't imagine someone not liking it even a bit!
Re: because some people have standards
There were people who supported Hitler, does that mean those people were right? The people that liked this movie are the kind of people that don't have the best of judgement or observation skills.
Re: because some people have standards
I'm sorry, are you fan of the film series, game series or just a random person? I don't understand spending time on this site talking about movie that sb didn't like at all. What's the point ? Is it some kind of entertainment for you to spred the negativity ? Go write comments on movies that you liked. But you look like a person that don't like much :-\
Re: because some people have standards
Exactly, that's what trolls are and for example, tyrant is a troll. These boards just happen to have a lot of trolls on them. I thought at first that most of the negativity here came from people who didn't like the movies because they aren't like the games, but I learned that random people live to come on here and trash these movies for no reason :)
Re: because some people have standards
Don't tell me how to live my life
Re: because some people have standards
Camera work and editing is not debatable if it is total dreck and completely unwatchable. You have no idea what you're talking about. No human could tell whatbthe hell was going on screen unless your mind filled the gaps and that is not enjoyable. Stop defending a movie that literally has the worst editing in the history of movies. Horrible, terribly directed and edited.
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
janeeek, i love RES EVIL 1-4. i hate RETRIBUTION but even that movie has good/kickass action sequences that are fun to watch again and again. i liked a lot of what was in THE FINAL CHAPTER but to pretend that the editing during many/most of the action sequences was acceptable/good says you're in denial about it or you are misremembering those scenes in question.
1. i paid 100% attention to every single second when i watched the film. again, i liked everything in it EXCEPT for the editing which made many of what appeared to be awesome action scenes almost unwatchable. you cannot possibly think the opening sequence where they flying creature is attacking Alice in the jeep has good editing. it doesn't. that sequence (which strangely enough is not as poorly edited in the trailers/clips) looked like it could have been one of my all time fave action scenes in any of the RE films but i will never know that because of the fact the freaking editing made it so that the sequence is almost impossible to make out what is happening. every time my eyes (i don't wear glasses. my eyesight is perfectly fine) would focus on a moment in that sequence, it abruptly cuts away to a different shot or different angle thereby making it just a stream/blur of jerky vids.
2. i was 100% into the film. i liked a lot of things about it.
3. i'm not blind. :)
i too liked the turbine scene. surprisingly i actually got a tiny bit sad/choked up when Ruby's character dies and we see the affect it had on Alice. it was a well done scene/moment.
EDIT:
oh i forgot, regarding shaky cam/editing, i love the Jason Bourne films and have never had a problem with it's fast edits/shaky cam. i'd have been happy if FINAL CHAPTER had BOURNE-ish competent editing in it's action scenes.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Thank you for your answer ! I want people like you here :P. I really doesn't mind this editing, maybe it could be a little more time between some shots ( mostly not for my pleasure, but for people to stop bitching and enjoy this fun movie :> ) I wish someone could told the editor to don't go fully nuts (just a little) and i think this movie could be even better for me and OF COURSE better for some people on here .
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
janeek, i hope i didn't come across like i was being snarky or rude to you. :)
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
No not at all. I'm quite shocked that you cared. Most people here doesn't seem to care about other people, they opinion and taste (I also have a problem with or top be fair)
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
I liked the films overall story and tone, how it truly felt like an epic finale to a fifteen year old movie series.
But the editing is so atrocious, if I watch this again, I'll probably be tempted to skip most of the action.
I couldn't tell you one thing that even happened in that fight with the big monster near the end. Could barely make out Alice and Isaacs fighting.
I've been a fan of the movies since the first, and this one really disappointed me.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Alice and Isaac fight was EXTREMALLY watchable and this scene wasn't even that quick. It makes me mad that people can be disappointed just because off editing issues . Like C'mon really ?
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Look man, when it comes to movies, I'm not hard to please at all. I very rarely strongly dislike any movie, because I just don't see it as a big deal as long as I found some enjoyment in them.
I did find some enjoyment in this one but it wasn't from any of the action because you can hardly make it out.
Yes the viewers can tell that Alice slams into the monster with the car.
They can tell her and Isaacs are fighting
They can tell that there are zombies and the heroes are shooting them.
But you see, that's the problem. Me and many others can tell whats happening and know it must be awesome and we Want to see it! We really, really want to see clearly and cleanly all the cool stuff going on but this movie doesn't allow us.
That's the problem.

janeeek,
"No not at all. I'm quite shocked that you cared. Most people here doesn't seem to care about other people"
so true unfortunately. IMDB can be a fun place to talk to others but as you point out correctly it's also has many MANY really mean/hateful/unpleasant/unhappy people as well. :)

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
We get it, you like garbage. Thanks for letting us know. Also, please learn to spell.
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
I watched the film today after watching Retribution on my DVR from Syfy.So instead of waiting 5 years like most fans,I only had to wait 15 minutes. My binge watch for the day.
Overall,I had no regrets seeing The Final Chapter in 3D.The action was good. But the continuity errors and bad editing were really frustrating.
40% fresh on rotten tomatoes isn't a terrible score. The Final Chapter is the best Resident Evil in the 6 film series if you can forgive the continuity errors and bad editing.
I accepted going into the film it was a dumb movie before seeing it.But I felt the film could have been allot more fun with better writing and editing.
I don't hate Paul W.Anderson's style. But it's a rare audience that actually love's his style.I'll give him props to say he loves his wife each and every day and we all know he means it.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Because most people forgot what a movie is all about anymore. They forgot that a movie is just an entertainment made by guys who wants to give us a glimpse of their own view of a matter or subject. People are so self-entitled nowadays that they tend to think that a movie is supposed to be made entirely for them and respect their individual tastes to perfection without any consideration that tastes are subjective to every person.
If a movie doesn't match the ideology they created in their mind then it's 'trash', 'worst movie ever made', and they will talk down on people that doesn't share their opinion. Now does that mean that every person who doesn't like a movie is snobbish? Of course not, like I said, every person is entitled to his/her opinion, what I find sad is when people take assault on a forum like it's the end of the world that a movie didn't match their heavenly expectations.
We are past the point of no return and it won't ever change my friend, the only advice I can tell you is don't start to listen or care about other peoples opinions and stick to your own. Because opinions are like a**holes, everybody have one but we don't need to know about it in detail.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
A movie is supposed to be seen. With the worst editing of all time; this dreck is virtually unwatchable. The filmmakers donor get a pass just because they made a movie.

You're welcome.
As for myself, I've hated these movies since the 4th one. The first three were watchable.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
You need to cut your wrists and apologize to your parents
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Jeez, you spoke my mind. I've been thinking about that all day!
I'd gladly do that after watching Paul W S Anderson do it first.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
The price of a movie ticket is worth more than your worthless life.
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Completely agree with everything you said i didn't understand but i guess as reality its showing to us people love to hate also not everything has to be perfectly framed, its called STYLE, in Afterlife and retribution people where whining of the slow mo now the producers and director hear that and try to please giving us a different tone and cut style people still hate, so its prove you can not please everybody, this is one of the most entertaining sagas of all time, i could rewatch this till the end of time, if you don't like the movie characters you can still play the games or watch the animated movies so everyone should be happy. lots of worlds to explore in different ways.
ps. Also that turbine sequence OMG!! it was so tense and hard to watch the last time a movie made me felt that way was long time ago.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
SLO mo or not, at least you can see what's happening. Nobody of sound mind can appreciate something they can't see.
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
The SloMo scenes where bad because they where badly choreographed.
One would suspect that if Milla plays that part for over a decade maybe she would learn some mixed martial arts in the meantime?
Or what about Anderson learns how to film action or at least hires a competent close combat-choreographer.
Shakey cam is instrument to hide bad physical performance, bad stuntwork, and bad timing.
It is a bad practice if you use it to hide what the audience wants to see.
Unless of course you have a valid reason to hide something.
Greengras used(invented) this style with Bourne to give the audience a perspective how it is to fight for Bourne. It's like a first person perspective.
The fights where intended to be confusing and disorientating.
If you rewatched these movies you will recognize how good(realistic) they are actually choreographed and performed. Also the audio plays a very important role. And its over in 30 seconds mostly.
Now if you watch an action/horror schlock movie you want to see everything, hiding the action means that the director is not really competent to do it otherwise.
In combination with ultra fast editing, with shots barely lasting a second, the whole thing becomes very incoherent, inconsistent and *beep* boring.
This is not subjectiv, this is objectivly, bad filmmaking.
Because as Greengras demonstrated it can be done without overdoing it.
Mad Max Fury Road also showed us how you can use Rapid editing without confusing the viewer, and that movie got an Academy Award for Editing.

Re: Why some people dislike this ?
We hate this because the movies are an insult to the video game franchise!!!
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
Not just the editing, this thing completely destroys the continuity of the series and changes the backstory all over the place, contradicting the events of earlier films pretty badly.
Re: Why some people dislike this ?
I'm a huge fan of the Resident Evil film franchise so I was really looking forward to seeing The Final Chapter (TFC). I geared up for it by rewatching the first five installments, in order, before opening day. Unfortunately, for me, TFC didnt live up to the hype. It didnt completely suck but it wasnt nearly as good as it could have been. At best it was "okay".
All I'd read about TFC in the weeks and months leading up to its release led me to believe it would be picking up right where Retribution left off, so I expected it to begin with an epic battle in Washington D.C. between the survivors of Alice's group, what was left of the U.S. military and the giant hoard of infected massing at the gates but it didn't. Why end Retribution with a cliffhanger that seems to imply a battle is about to take place, only to have the next (and allegedly final) film begin three weeks after said battle? Additionally, I expected to see Jill, Ava, Becky and Leon in TFC but despite the fact that they were all still standing at the end of Retribution, they were inexplicably missing. Less than ten minutes into TFC I was disappointed and confused, and nothing that followed was awe-inspiring enough to snap me out of that mindset. Perhaps I would have enjoyed TFC more if I hadnt rewatched the previous films and gone into it like one of "the Alice clones", with virtually no memory of everything that happened before.
