Kill Bill: Vol. 2 : Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

When Elle kills him, it makes sense to me. He snatched her eye out (in the real world, such a thing would actually kill a person).

He was ruthless and evil. He deserved his fate.

Kiss my black ass! Toodles!

He got what was coming to him. Yay.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

He was definitely a very Very VERY harsh and brutal teacher but I don't think he deserved to have what Elle did to him.

I am glad that Uma Thurman's character (The Bride) got a bit of revenge for Pai Mei (and herself) when she ripped out Elle's other eye.

He was an asshole.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

I agree. He was awful. I don't see how anybody could feel sorry for him. I mean wouldn't he be the perfect example of "live by the sword, die by the sword"? He was a real dickhead.

I love Uma Thurman's character, though.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Kill Bill's are my favorite Tarantinos' and Death Proof. Beatrix wasn't really a sympathetic character, she was a violent and ruthless assassin, yet its to Thurman's credit that she managed to make her sympathetic and she had been to hell and back after attempting to come clean.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Yes, I think I liked Beatrix because Uma Thurman herself has always been so likable.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

As terrible a person as Elle was, I honestly didn't feel bad for Pai Mei when she killed him. He was a misogynistic pig.

Just because I'm not on THEIR side, doesn't mean I'm on YOURS.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Pai Mei was about harsh discipline and I can't recall what the insult was that Elle put onto him, but it didn't deserve that she have her eye snatched out. It only made her an even meaner snake and I'm glad she poisoned him.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Yeah, I don't know who I like disliked more, Pai Mei or Elle. I probably disliked Pai Mei just a little bit more. He didn't seem like a human being to me.

I think Pai Mei snatched out her eyeball because she called him an old fool. You can't be impressed by or respect somebody who reacts this badly to being insulted. I had a friend who admire Pai Mei for his self-discipline and I was like no way, Pai Mei is a super creep.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

If he couldn't handle being called an old fool and not react in such an extreme manner, then his teachings of discipline were distorted.

He was a fun interesting character in the context, but he was a snake just like Elle.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Yes he was Kiddo's teacher and Elle was a bitch.

There was a reason why they dont show that on screen.

J-curl is just being a boob. They were all assasins. Assassins aren't that great.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

Im not so sure Pai was an assassin.

Re: Are we supposed to sympathize with Pai Mei?

I didn't feel particularly bad for him. He was training assassins.
