Joker : Over hyped and overrated…

Over hyped and overrated…

Finally watched this supposed master piece of a film. Its basically a 2 hour movie about a man with severe mental illness that cant get any help.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

The hype surrounding this movie kept me away from it for a long time, but I ended up enjoying it and hope this film's success will pave the way for more major studios to take chances on projects the way Warner Bros. did for this.

This movie signals a step in the right direction. Away from that heavy handed market-research approach to making movies like Hollywood has been getting away with for so long.

Maybe a bit of that hype was generated because of that optimism.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

I also think it's overrated as well. It's not a terrible movie by any means, I just left thinking it could have been more, and thinking that was it?

It feels like a typical villain story. Guy has issues, cannot get help, then he eventually snaps and goes on a killing spree. Well we've seen this before in movies though.

Joker's origin story, is nothing more than any psychopath, you read about in the news.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

That movie was amazing. Too bad I didn't get an opportunity to watch the other films nominated.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

The acting was good, but I can't recall a movie where the violence was so glorified. The message was violence is encouraged. I think there will be consequences at some point.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

It WAS over-hyped, but it was still worthy of some buzz. That description you gave would suit films it drew inspiration from as well (Taxi Driver and King Of Comedy), so that description alone doesn’t make it a dud. Those similar films are considered excellent. Joker was certainly worth more notice than the Diversity Nod that ended up will all the acclaim.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

What’s diverse about a movie full of chinks?

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

It’s diverse in relation to the casts, crews, and settings of most of the other films in contention.

Re: Over hyped and overrated…

You know, this movie is receiving way too many negative filmboards reviews and comments.

You guys are obviously not DC fans or fans of The Batman comics. The Joker was always a murderous maniac encouraging chaos.

The Joker played by Jack Nicholson was more violent than this Joaquin portrayal of Arthur Fleck/Joker.
