Rock : RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

I never cared for Rush. Geddy Lee's voice made my brain spasm in pain. That being said, I've always coveted Peart's kits along the years.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

You're not alone. When I saw them live in 2007, I was one of about 5 females in the entire arena. And the other 4 looked annoyed their boyfriends dragged them out to see the show. I had a GREAT fucking time though. Geddy Lee is a bit to get used to, but he's brilliant. Bass, keyboards, weird fucking vocals….awesome.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Oh he's incredibly talented, no doubt.

But that voice? That voice? NooOOOooOOOoooo! When Rush comes on the radio, I turn the volume down/off or change the station. Nope. Won't be having any of it. I've always had an aversion to anything high pitched, which includes (at the risk of alienating the entire board) Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing (too whiny for my tastes).

You know who has a voice to die for: Ville Valo. Gimme some of this all day and all night!

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

His voice is an acquired taste. The first time I heard him I wasn't a fan. But he grew on me. He's DEFINITELY unique.

I don't like Ville Valo's voice though. (always been a HIM hater)

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

I'm not particularly a fan of HIM. But I AM a fan of Ville Valo's singing voice. I've watched so many of his stuff, interviews, and a lot of solo stuff.

That voice, man. How can you not like that voice? Doesn't even take time and effort to acquire a taste. :)

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Doesn't do anything for me, no.

You need to leave.

I live. I die. I live again.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

I take my medicine. As in…certain artists I adore who push the fucking envelope. Like Aphex Twin. He did a little ditty called Ventolin, which is one of the most claustrophobic (and high pitched) tunes I've heard. Fucking LOVE it, unpleasant as it is.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

There's music I listen to that I'm sure most of the board can't stand. That's okay, I can deal with it.

Take your medicine? Eh?

An example, to me, of pushing the envelope, is a lot of the stuff Maynard Keenan does. I feel the same way with Marilyn Manson, - he can set a lunch box on fire on stage, perform in a corset, or do a cover of Carly Simon:

A lot of "alternative" bands today owe a great deal to him pushing the envelope.

Same with a lot of the punk bands I listen to who paved the way.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

I'm probably the same with respects to the board liking what I listen to. Not all but most. I'm ok with that. That's why I get a little excited when someone posts something I have in my collection.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Better voice.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

better voice

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

I agree. Rush = awesome drummer, shitty vocalist. Neil Peart waisted his talent being in a band with such a shitty singer.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Rush is largely considered one of the best bands ever with a bad lead singer, Lol.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

smh

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Kinda sad that a RIP thread about Neil Peart's death turns into a discussion on Geddy Lee's voice.

It's irrelevant.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Yes.

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Lmao "7 females at a Rush concert". BABY, I WAS ONE! ❤️❤️❤️

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

Re: RiP Neil Peart (Rush)

You are absolutely right, and I regret coming out of the gate like that.

Sticking with Peart, I'll stick with my fascination with his kits. Way, way long ago, there was some radio contest where you could call in and have a chance to win one of his kits! I called non-stop!

I was a drummer in an obscure little punk band, but hey, we all dream, don't we?
