Food and Drink : Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

I put ice cubes in a glass, then I pour vanilla seltzer over it (the kind that just has the essence, not the kind that has any kind of colour or sweeteners):

Zero calories, just essence. Then I put in a little bit of Angel Bake Rose Extract, which is made from Bulgarian rose petals, and has no dyes, no sweeteners (no sugar, no HFCS, no artificial sweeteners or chemicals), and just drizzled a little over the top:

No sweeteners, no calories, and just a little bit goes a long way. I also have rose petal jam from Japan, and I have rose syrup which is often used in mixed drinks. But this is pretty neat, vanilla and rose.

Rose is great when baking.

Yeah, I like water with just a fruit flavor essence but no sweetness.

Hey Christina!

I do my best to eat healthy and nutritious foods. Most of what I eat can be found in regular grocery stores, or sometimes specialty stores like Whole Foods market.

Re: Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

I'm glad you are doing such good things!

I wanted to shop at Whole Foods again, but my dad thinks it's expensive. I'm making beef and noodles with mushrooms next. I just had ham and cabbage, with celery and carrots.

Re: Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

Your dad is right, that Whole Foods is or can be pretty expensive, which is why I do most of my shopping at the regular grocery market. But for those few things that I can't get anywhere else, - just for those, - I'll make the trip there or to one of the organic health food local markets we have in the area.

Oooh, that sounds really good, Christina, —- your beef and noodles with mushrooms.

My Nana used to make ham, cabbage, celery and carrots, and it was so delicious! I loved it! Do you boil everything all together? Now you've got me hungry for that, and I think I'm going to make it now!

Re: Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

Wow! You're actually making it? That's so coincidental!

That's cool your nana made ham and cabbage with celery and carrots … just like me! another coincidence! I didn't want the potatos in them, just doesn't fit for me. I think my mom/dad used to use ham, cabbage, carrots, and potatos or maybe something not always with cabbage later on.

I just got 3 large packs of mushrooms, have half a pack at home maybe, and 3 packs of noodles, and 1 large piece of beef, didn't think to get 2. No room in the refrigerator to store it, yet.

I don't remember everything we ate, but we had Sloppy Jo's maybe once a week, pizza maybe once a week at home and once a week at school for me at least. We had "pepper steak." Steak with potatos and vegetables. Lots of broccoli. Some fresh carrot and cucumber most every supper. Things like the ham and cabbage sometimes. Beef and noodles. Later on, more stir fry. I didn't like it and got fat on other things, not sure why, as an adult when I had to come home from college. I didn't do well so stopped for a long time.

I love coconut water

Re: Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

Do you really? I LOVE coconut water. It's so nutritious and filled with electrolytes so it's wonderful to drink after you work out. I also drink it plain when I have a sore throat or feel like I'm coming down with something (which thank you, it just reminded me that I ought to be drinking some now, since I haven't been feeling well for the past couple of days). Luckily I always keep 4 little cartons in my fridge, so I'm going to go get a little box now.

They're great for smoothies, especially DETOX smoothies, where I combine cucumber, pear, granny smith apples, fresh squeezed lemon juice and zest, fresh chopped organic ginger, Asian pear, celery, bean sprouts. Very good and tasty.

Re: Oooh, this is actually quite tasty!

I have a Nutribullet (it's really not the same thing as a blender, and it's definitely not the same as a juicer which extracts all the fibre from whatever you put in it). I make it veggie dominant (and nope, you do not taste things like spinach or kale when you put it in).

But I'll mix coconut water, cucumbers, celery (which I chop up into very tiny cubes because the fibres actually can stay stringy if you don't cut them fine), pea sprouts (because again, there's almost no taste except for "green" and healthy, pears (in season or they taste or feel kind of grainy),….all of these have virtually no calories in them. I'll add a little bit of fruit (like 5 frozen cherries, or 8-10 frozen blueberries, or 4 or 5 slices of frozen peaches and with peach, a nice addition is 2 leaves of fresh mint). I use about an inch (which is a LOT) of ginger root, diced, squeezed lemon or squeezed lime, or squeezed Minneola oranges.

Again, extremely low calories but very filling. If I use coconut milk instead of coconut water, it adds 45 calories.

I also add unusual things like Bulgarian rose extract (doesn't take much, and goes great with peaches), I use organic lavender buds (only takes about a teaspoon), Bourbon vanilla, and again, all of these things are close to no calories, but when mixed together are wonderful.

Oh here's a good low calorie drink: You just need a shaker, like the kind that have a little blender ball in it, but I mix coconut water, maybe a few tablespoons of coconut milk for some body, and some dragon fruit extract, (that's basically what's in the Starbuck's "Pink Drink") Just shake it up and VOILA. I just don't add sweeteners like Starbucks might, but if you add a little coconut milk for body, you really don't need any, and the natural sweetness of coconut water is plenty!

I got a million of 'em!
