The Magnificent Seven : childish and full of cliches
Re: childish and full of cliches
Well put, I also gave it a 6. Half-way through the movie I asked myself who would end up killing Skaarsgard's character and my guess was the girl. Sure enough
And Hawke's character coming back that was never in any doubt so why even have him leave in the first place?
The only thing I really liked in this movie was the use of dynamite. As you mentioned even the Native American showdown was predictable. If it were a white guy killing a Native, some people would be up in arms.

Hubby and I debated if it was worth the quarter we paid Redbox to watch this. He said that we could've spent a weekend and come up with a better screenplay.

Yes, movies have plots
Yes, movies have plots that have been done before
Yes, This movie made you upset
You'll be OK. We're all OK. My daughter broke her arm today and she'll be OK. My right knee is killing me right now and I'll be OK.
It does have problems with the character development regarding the Cherokee/Tlingit dude. That's not enough to worry about it. It's a movie. You'll be OK.

childish and full of cliches
the motivation of several characters to join the fight was questionable at best
Hawke's acting made me twitch, as his character in general
the racial salad was ridiculous and not compatible with the period depicted. although, I didn't mind that all that much. but it made me raise an eyebrow why?
also, why would knives have an advantage over a pistol in the final battle? why arrows?
they all had enough ammo and needn't any stealth approach. they all had the skills.
the battle between the tribal Indians was VERY predictable. the Gatling Gun was too. Hawke's return - anticipated
Skarsgaard looked stoned and taken entirely from his other movie character. was looking for something different for a change
the humor was well the same. juvenile and flat.
still have no idea why the native guy joined them. smirked at that.
Horne's character was obsolete for the movie and for the plot. what skills did he bring?
character development? did it have to be 130min long?
finally, gave it a 6 for entertainment. without Washington and Pratt, would probably quit it in the middle.
