Automobiles and Transportation : Have you ever been in car accident?

Have you ever been in car accident?

Or at least, witnessed the accident?

Last Tuesday, I was driving in the turn lane and had to stop for the traffic, since the lights turned green and the cars were coming fast, then the dude with pickup truck rammed into me from behind, which demolished left side of rear and dented the trunk (I couldn't open it). Everything in my car, including my coffee in cup holder, just flew in the direction of the windshield. Took me a while to clean and I wasn't injured, thankfully. And neither was the idiot who was not paying attention while driving. The policeman basically scolded the man for not looking both ways while driving on the turn lane.

I was like, are you fucking serious? I just got the car last year.

I did remember once when I was in seventh grade, I witnessed the motorcycle accident. The man crashed into the car that was stuck in the middle of the road and he flew off the motorcycle (rather high in the air) and he landed on the road pretty hard. I don't know if the poor man survived or not, but he wore all the protection, helmet, cushion suit, etc. It was the woman's fault for not paying attention, not the motorcyclist, for driving the wrong way.

No matter where you go, there's bound to be idiots on the road that would put your life in danger.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

No, I live in a small town, free of violence and car accidents.

Elvis didn't do no drugs!

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Lucky you. Smaller town would be more peaceful than clamorous big city. Even though, the city I live in is not as expansive as capital city or major city like New York City (smaller compared to those), the traffic is as jammed as ever, during the morning and late afternoon.

The term I'm looking for is normal sized city? lol

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

lol Well, not only it was not fun, but it's also my very first accident. Since I got my license at 19, I had countless close calls until last Tuesday. Just my luck, right?

My mother asked if I caused the accident. Noooo!! I just got rammed in the ass!! I'm gonna be sore in the morning! Of course, I'd rather be rammed in the ass on the bed than being hit by the pickup truck.

Is the guy who rear-ended you going to pay to have your car fixed?

I was in a car accident when I was 25. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and hit the steering wheel with my mouth and cut my gums

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Is the guy who rear-ended you going to pay to have your car fixed?

Yes. He'd have to. That won't happen until sometimes next week. I just got the police report with his info and on Monday, I'm going to contact the car insurance company to get his information (or the agency do, I can't remember since it's my very first accident so I don't know much about it). It's going to take a while and I want my car fixed as soon as possible. According to a couple of people, I may have to wait weeks for that to happen. *grumbles*

Woo! That's gonna hurt. Good thing it's not worst than that, like the dislocated jaw. *shudders* Or flying through the windshield! I'm glad you're alright.

My mom's old friend got into the horrible accident about 15 years ago, and as a result, she lost one of her legs, which was completed crushed. Her leg had to be amputated and she's wearing the fake leg ever since. She used to live in two story house and she had to move due to her injury.

Thanks.

I hope he's doing well. Unless….he passed away.

Still, I'm glad you're alright. *parenting tone* Be sure to wear seatbelt next time!!

You're welcome

He's doing well 👍

Thank you, Mark. After my accident I got involved with a guy that was very strict about wearing seatbelts and I got into the habit

To be frank, I probably would be the same if it meant to save your life. The policeman scolded the guy who hit me and told him to look both ways next time. I felt bad for the kid, but the policeman's right.

Same. Just once on the road, though.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Yes, two:

1) I had a Nissan 300ZX turbo, T-top, cherry. That car was so much fun to drive and so fast, it was incredible. One day, I brought it into a garage to have the wheels rotated, front end alignment, oil change, etc. I dropped the car off that morning, and I picked it up before the garage closed. I still had my copy of the paid receipt listing all the work that was just done that day. I was driving home, (which was only a couple of miles away). Driving at around 30mph and going around a corner, the front right wheel came off the axle and flew into someone's front yard. Everything happened so fast. I ended up totaling my car and ran into the back of a BMW that was parked on the street when my car skidded.

2) After my dog, Bear, died on October 27, 2017, I went into a deep depression, not sure if or when I'd ever be ready to get another dog. After mourning, when I was ready, months later, I found a dog named Dudley and put a deposit down on him. What they didn't tell me was that despite being listed as 12 miles away, I actually had to pick him up 2 hours away at 8am. On the way there, I was involved in a head-on collision where my car was totaled. Looking at the photos, not quite sure how I walked away. I lost the dog, Dudley, had several injuries to recover from, but then I was ready to try again (since they took Dudley away from me since I wasn't there to pick him up). Despite the tragedy, I ended up with the most wonderful little doggo in the whole wide world now, and I now have the happiest most perfect companion.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Oh, my god! I'm so sorry to hear about your dogs! I'm glad you found your companion. I'm glad you survived both accidents, despite of the tragedy. Perhaps, it was a very good luck you walked away with little to no injury what otherwise could have been fatality or ending up in critical condition. You're a lucky gal! But RIP to both dogs.

About the first one, that's why I tend to be wary of auto shops. I don't really trust mechanics, and these sort of mistakes may be intentional or unintentional, you'd never know. Since you kept the receipts, hopefully whoever works at the auto shop gets fired for doing that to you. That's the pure stupidity for not checking to make sure everything are in working order. Even though this type of occurrence may be common, that's not an excuse. They could have indirectly kill someone for making stupid mistakes like that. Did you at least sue them?

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Before 20, I'd get in accidents all the time. Since then, none that were my fault, and only 2 that were someone's else's fault.

One of my first cars was a Cavalier Z24. I was making a left turn, and my friends were behind me in their car. I was heading to this girl's house, probably going to get laid. I made the left turn and a guy hit my front left door, and knocked me over to the passenger side. The door and the front driver's seat were damaged. If I had been wearing a seatbelt, I probably would have been killed, as I would have had nowhere to move. My friend said he thought I was dead. I was lucky I had no injuries. I never saw or talked to that girl again.

I made a left turn and sideswiped someone's van.

I went straight on the intersection on a red blinking light (it was late at night) and the other guy, who i thought was making a turn, went straight, hit my door.

Later:

2 cars hit each other and slid into me at a stop sign. That's when I had no insurance and a suspending license. That car was gone. I'd probably still have that car today if not for that. I'm really fortunate I got a settlement for that.Ended up gettin the girl's number and got a date. We text. Lolz

A guy put his truck in reverse in a parking lot and reversed right into my bumper. With the truck being so large, I was out of his view from his back window. I got lucky here, too; my front bumper already had lot of scratches on it, and the light was cracked, and I ended up getting a new bumper and light out of it.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Ah, I can see what you meant "lots and lots". Jeez, talk about misfortune, dude. But out of all these, you managed to get a girl. lol

I imagine the first one would have been frightening. I thought if I hadn't wore the seat belt, I would have smack my face into the steering wheel or windshield. I'm glad you're alright.

I'm wondering how the hell did some of the people get their license. Did they blow the driver's license instructor or something? lol

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

It's funny you ask that. Because in addition to accidents, I have a history of tickets. My license has been suspended before. I had to retake my test.

At one point in court, the lawyer said if I get another ticket, it will be considered a felony. A FELONY. Lol, I still drove after that and didn't get pulled over.

In one accident, I had a warrant out for my arrest for unpaid tickets, AND my license suspended AND no insurance. The cops still didn't arrest me.

I had to retake my test. The first time I was 16. The 2nd time was…maybe 4 years ago. I even drove to the place myself to get my own license. Anytime was license was revoked, I still drove, so it didn't affect anything I did.

I'm doing good now, though.

Oh, and witnessing an accident:

I've seen several, but the worst was two years ago… and it was a fatal accident in front of my work. I just happened to be outside, and I heard a loud BOOM. I looked, and a huge truck totaled a VW into nothing. Scrap metal.

I rushed to tell the employees, "there's an accident!" And at first they were apathetic…they assumed it was just a fender bender or something…and I'm like, "NO! You don't understand…a serious one.."

We all went outside…eventually the cops pulled out the dead body. This was the first time I saw a dead body outside of funerals and hospitals, and sick people expected to die. Very few people actually see someone dying from an accident in front of them. That's always in the movies. But never real life.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

My oldest cousin has a felony record for selling drugs and having possession of drugs. Not just weed, but also cocaine and he lost his license with slim chance of getting a license back or so I heard. Either suspended or revoked for the time being. He's now serving in prison for the third time for selling drugs in the church parking lot. What an idiot. I thought he had learned his lessons for the past two times, but nope. He did mention he got the license back before going to prison for the third time, but only for the short period.

Does it cost anything to retake the test? I never thought you'd have to retake the test if you get your license suspended or revoked. I just assumed they'd call you and say, "Hey, your license is now restored. You may drive for the time being." or something like that. Or they'd say, 'Your license will be restored on [date] so do not operate the vehicle for the time being'. Whatever it is.

I'm glad everything worked out in the end…..for now. *narrows eyes at you*

Kidding. But seriously, the poor driver. Seeing the dead body is never pretty. I also witnessed the dead body few weeks ago and it was my uncle laying dead on the floor. I never really knew him, but it was sad to see and a bit traumatizing. It is not like the movies. If you're watching the movies, you'd be like, "Meh. Another person dead. lol'. But in real life, you'd go, "Holy shit. I'm really seeing this. I'm not in the movies…..". Deaths and destruction in reality is traumatizing. To me, at least because it may have different effect on people.

I never witnessed the accident, but I heard from a friend (with some limited details, I'm afraid) about the motorcyclist crashed into the truck and he was decapitated and that happened on the highway. She said it was awful. If I had left work sooner, I'd probably witness that. *shudders*

Yeah it does cost. It doesn't count as "retaking" it - it's basically the same as the first time you take it. It was more than just suspended. I was caught driving with a license already suspended. After that point, it was null and void. For 3 years I banned from getting a license, could not drive (legally) and was only eligible to get a license after a certain point.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Damn. The system shouldn't have been that harsh, but there are times it's meant to be more fair rather than harsh. Apparently, that depends on the jurisdiction system in some cities or states. But in the end, you got the license now. That's all it matters.

Yes. I didn't have my sear belt on and I bounced off all the hard surfaces. Luckily the other car and I were both going slowly, but I still got whiplash and multiple bruises.

Re: Have you ever been in car accident?

Even the smallest damage can cause many problems, not just car, but also yourself. The guy didn't hit me that hard, but if he did, I would be wearing neck brace and bleeding from the head temple, even when I wear seat belt.
