Last Tango in Paris

Did you know that Bertolucci and Brando discussed the "butter scene" in private and that Maria Schneider did not know that was going to happen? So what we see on screen is her genuine reaction.

"Not today, Satan!" – Blaire White

Re: Favorite Movies w/ Marlon Brando?

Ironically, I found her more interesting in that film than Brando, though many say she couldn't act.

I've seen a lot of other films with her after that….a few that were hard to obtain, but she had some really interesting film roles.

The interesting thing about that film is the concept of it rather than the execution.
It was hard for me to sit thru the whole way at first and took me a while before I could complete it….but then I liked it a lot.

The misogyny debate over it is irrelevant to the story itself.

Two strangers meet, an older man and a young woman, both involved with other people, have a sexual tryst without any knowledge of each other…the woman is intrigued by the mystery of the older man and wants to know everything about him but he doesn't want to know anything about her.

The more they see each other, the less interesting he becomes to her and the more interesting she becomes to him…by the end she's completely repulsed by him…lol…and he falls in love with her.

The tragic outcome is inevitable.

I was caught up in the psychology of it - not the sexuality.

A lot of people refuse to watch it because of the sex scenes and/or that butter scene.

Maria Schneider disowned the film after making it and hadn't talked to Bertolucci since.

She had also walked off the set of Caligula early on in production refusing to do the film because of how disgusted she was by it, but she demanded to be paid.

Teresa Ann Savoy was her replacement.

Though my favorite Brando film is The Nighcomers

Are you okay?

Re: Favorite Movies w/ Marlon Brando?

Could it put you off butter for life?

Re: Favorite Movies w/ Marlon Brando?

Well…I can't say I ever wanted to try butter as lubrication…lol

Are you okay?

Re: Favorite Movies w/ Marlon Brando?

Yeah, I think she went for that "fake controversy" dollar.

Re: Favorite Movies w/ Marlon Brando?

I saw the movie because of Brando but Maria was captivating

Brando's character gets involved with her while he's grieving for his wife. Grief like that is so strong it puts you in a tailspin

The Men. (1950)

The Men

Yes, an underrated, beautiful movie that I completely forgot about. And his screen debut, no less.

The Men

Oh, I forgot about THE MEN, his film debut! A very moving performance in a film directed by Fred Zinneman. I have to add that to my list. Thanks!
