I have always enjoyed The Silver Streak.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: Trains in films
I remember it! The tension never let up and the acting was superb. Eric Roberts finest hour I think.
Re: Trains in films
This one, Raggedy Man, and Star 80 were his best.

Haven seen that since it was released. It's a little vague, but I think I remember liking it. Great cast.

A little too intense for me, VSV. π
Re: Trains in films
Shanghai Express
What a gorgeous one this is. One of Von Sterberg's best - and maybe Dietrich's, too.

Excellent list. I especially love The Lady Vanishes, The Railway Children, The Polar Express, Stardust Memories and Stand By Me.
Re: Trains in films
Every time I see this title, it reads like "Trans in films" to me.
By far, North by Northwest, and one of my most favourite films of all time which is Murder of the Orient Express.
Snowpiercer is a rather bizarre one but fits the description.

Re: Trains in films
Those first two are classics, but Snowpiercer is one of the dumbest and most bizarre movies I've ever seen!

Re: Trains in films
Agree, the first two are total classics.
I put a little caveat in front of Snowpiercer, but the concept is actually quiet real and reflective of society in general.
It was bizarre but no more bizarre than a lot of other weird flicks out there.

Re: Trains in films
It was bizarre, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
But it was also stupid, and that is always a bad thing. And I don't even think it was real or reflective of society, unless you're talking about society inside a loony bin. Just my opinion. It stunk.

Re: Trains in films
Yes. Society is on the way to the loony bin, hell in a handbasket and all that.

Righto on the first two. Haven't seen SNOWPIERCER; it appears that some love it and some don't.

Trains in films
Among others, I appreciate these:
Emperor of the North
North by Northwest
The Train
The Grey Fox
Murder on the Orient Express (1978)
and some with interesting scenes/sequences:
Casablanca - Rick standing on the train steps, reading Ilsa's letter in the rain
Dr. Zhivago - Zhivago, family & the huddled masses being transported during the revolution
East of Eden - James Dean sitting atop the rolling train after trying to see his mother
Meet John Doe - Walter Brennan playing the harmonica & dancing while Gary Cooper watches
