LOVED THIS!

Re: Death on the Nile

Now we're talking!

Any interest in the remake? Are they still remaking it?

Re: Death on the Nile

What great escapism those old Agatha Christie based movies were. Full of crazy people and unsolvable crimes.(Except by Hercule and his little grey cells)

Re: Death on the Nile

What a delight! They'll never do a remake as good as that.

Re: Death on the Nile

It's David Suchet as Poirot for me!

Re: Death on the Nile

I absolutely adored Albert Finney in Murder on the Orient Express.

In fact, that is way up on my list of favourite movies.

Re: Death on the Nile

Albert Finney is a wonderful actor. I love the Murder on the Orient Express story, not sure if I've seen his version.

Did you ever catch the Dennis Potter series, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus?

Re: Death on the Nile

This? I just pulled it up on YT and I don't recognize it. I've never heard of it before. Do you recommend it? (BTW: Karaoke is a separate name of another of Potter's series?)

What is the gist of this? It reminds me of a Doctor Who type of thing, or kind of like the TV series Lexx (<- have you ever seen that one?)

EDIT: This also reminds me of Hunger Games, or Logan's Run, or Blade Runner, or Dune, definitely a whole lot like Lexx (which I liked quite a bit). Even Farscape a bit. Have you ever seen Farscape (the series). I think there was a movie too?

Re: Death on the Nile

From what I recall Dennis Potter had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wrote two stories for rival channels. One for the BBC, Karaoke and one for Channel 4, Cold Lazarus. IIRC Cold Lazarus was only allowed to be shown after his death.
The Finney part was obviously Dennis himself reflecting on his life and then in Cold Lazarus his head had been cryogenically frozen and reanimated. I might be mis-remembering but that's the gist. They were two different stories linked in a very unusual way.

If you've seen anything else by Dennis Potter like The Singing Detective, Pennies from Heaven, Brimstone and Treacle you will know what to expect!

Re: Death on the Nile

That's always been my favourite Poirot.

Re: Death on the Nile

Those were the days of real entertainment. Thank the lord we can still watch films like that.

Re: Death on the Nile

I agree. I'm afraid the day will come when we no longer have access to them. So many people have no interest in these older classics.
