Thrillers/Suspense : Eyes Wide Shut
Re: Eyes Wide Shut
To be fair… Pollack was a pretty decent actor in general 👍

Loved it.

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
I liked it when I first saw it, but upon recent rewatch I found I only really liked the masked ball scene (the Jocelyn Pook music in that scene is amazing).
Re: Eyes Wide Shut
Joe Sarno handled similar subject matter a whole lot better with his film Sin in the Suburbs.

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
Made in 1964.. Interesting. Does it deal more with sex, or the ruling class?

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
The movie centers on the stuff seemingly respectable suburbanites do behind closed doors, so it basically deals more with sex than with the ruling class.

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
It's very nicely done for a low-budget softcore film from the 1960's. Clever script and good acting from a capable cast, plus it was pretty risqué subject matter at the time it was made and released.

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
Cool, thank you. The script is essential for me in a movie. I'll try to check it out.

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
I agree… Nice colors, bad acting.
Some people think Kubrick didn't finish editing, including someone who worked with Stanley and said "It doesn't seem like a Kubrick movie at all"

Re: Eyes Wide Shut
Not a fan of that movie.
Re: Eyes Wide Shut
I thought it was very good
Re: Eyes Wide Shut
Tom Cruise was passable. He wasn't a scene stealer, but he wasn't so bad that it took away from the film, either. I can't think of an actor who would have fit that part any better and did a better job with the material. He was just neutral.
I think it's Tom Cruise's best performance of his catalogue, if that's saying anything.
Nicole Kidman though, she was horrible.
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane
By those who could not hear the music.

I prefer his performances in Collateral and Magnolia.
Re: Eyes Wide Shut
I totally agree. Cruise was bland, but didn't fuck anything up. Kidman seemed like a kid, man.

Eyes Wide Shut
I still have this on VHS - I got it a year after it came out. This time I noticed how bad the acting was. Hell, the least worst actor was a director! (Pollack)
Any thoughts on secret societies and/or the ruling elite?
