Health & Fitness : Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Are you a night owl or an early bird?

My circadian rhythm has always been flexible to the point where I can pretty much bend the hour hand of my biological clock back into almost any melodic pattern of my choosing, with it being able to resume back to its normal flow with no significant alarming effects within the next two days. I’m more of a night owl though, not only because of my work hours, but also because I prefer doing getting my tasks done after 1 AM when there isn’t a single engine roaming around on the streets than at 1 PM. So, are you a night owl or an early bird?

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I worked nights and liked it, BUT, I later got scheduled one day a week working mornings

I would have a headache on those days

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I experience the Cluster headaches when I undergo the transition between the two cycles from nights to mornings, but they are nothing that a Triptan, combined with some black tea can’t provide a remedy for.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I often don’t make it to sleep until 6 or 7 AM, lol. I tend to function better around that time if I’ve stayed awake for twenty consecutive hours at least.

I am an early to bed, early to rise person. I love getting up early and enjoying the day.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Most people are like that, especially since humans need sunlight to survive, as it’s a natural serotonin enhancer that can give vital D, along with melatonin and energy from the light rays, in a comparable fashion to how solar panels work. That’s a perk to being a natural early bird, along with all of this brightening up our moods, with everyone have different levels of exposure needed, depending on the season and on how far north or south of the equator you live, lol. I’ve also witnessed that early birds are more frequently extroverted than introverted, with the correlation like varying upon how they adjust to there frequently being more people within their personal space or social bubble:

Have you always lived the early bird lifestyle, Margo?

In my teens thru the early 20s, I stayed up late and could have slept til noon.
I always figured that was natural around that time in one's life.

My reaction is the same as Dazed's….
Come again?
Reading over my reply to you, I should clear up one matter. I said I could have slept till noon from my teens thru the early 20s. That would have been a personal choice. Life, parents, the army, a job all made my could their couldn't.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I just was reminded of hownos cryptic post about his "neighbor"😂

Much like you…I'd love to be able to…but the notion that I actually sleep.til.noon and lounge around in a robe all day is kind of funny😉👍

Also…i hope I'm responding to the right comments…I get a little lost when the thread gets deep🤬

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

hownos…
I didn't really think you did sleep the day away and lay about in a robe. You just don't strike me as a lazy person. You are more of an idea guy and you seem to make them happen on YouTube!
I must admit though, that puttering about the house in a robe can be pretty nice on a cold winter day when there is no place to go. I enjoy those lazy days when I get the chance.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Not lazy. A bit of a procrastinator…but nothing irresponsible.

I think the whole thing started because of something I said that mimicked your response. I have a heated garage…but it only stays at 55° in the winter. I smoke out there and fiddle around and it's a bit cool for shorts and a t shirt so sometimes I throw on a flannel robe. And that's how I became…robeman😂👍

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

What really bothered him was you saying you were more or less in a position where you didn't need to work. That killed him near enough!
Most people would say "lucky you congratulations" !

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Really? I hate that! He and I made different decisions in life…that's all. He got educated then went to work for a company. I left my education to strike out on my own to start a company. He decided to grow a family…I decided to grow a business.
He gets to clock in and out… I'm 25/8/366.

The idea that I work since I'm 12 and now at 48 I enjoy the fruits of my labor only to be criticized for it… ridiculous! Especially coming from a fiscal conservative like Mr.poopy👎👎👎

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

My old landlord had a expression which he used on his sister who envied his wealth, she said he was lucky.
His retort was "The harder I work the luckier I am"

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Damn right! And maybe I don't hit it ad hard as I used to…or maybe it hits me harder 😂

Either way…I live a most happy life and I know score on that one! Money can't buy happiness…can't cure loneliness… doesn't wait and worry about you when you're overdue. I could lose it all over night…I know she would be there at my side to build it again 😉👍

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

My dad would go nuts if we slept late, he'd come upstairs and shout at us to get up!
I find that now I'm a smidge older I'm naturally awake, never need an alarm clock but also like to go to sleep earlier. I would like it if I didn't need to pee at 4am though.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Since my sleeping patterns have always been erratic, mine came to expect that there would be days where I would stay up until noon as a child on my days off, lol. I always go to sleep whenever my body tells me that it needs it; and if I need(ed) to be asleep by a certain time, then I have sleeping pills to zonk me out.

It’s also a bitch when our body requires for us to be awake to perform a function when it’s tired, .

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Even in the summer, during school breaks, our mother made sure that we were up by 9:00 AM on Saturdays/ always early on a Sunday for church. That was the latest we ever were permitted to sleep. Living in the country, we had chores. That's probably why I am more of an early bird. I really am use to getting up early.
I love being retired now. It's such a relief to no longer have to worry about getting a good night's sleep and getting up on time.

I would like it if I didn't need to pee at 4am though.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I wish that I could say the same, lol. I hate it when I end up only getting three to four hours to sleep due to some episodes of Insomnia due to an uptight schedule that offers me minimal time to vedge out.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I feel for you. I always hated waking up in the night and trying to get back to sleep before the alarm rang. I'd be so stressed just knowing that I had to be up in a few hours, I wasn't able to fall back asleep. Just removing that anxiety helps somewhat.

Re: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Anxiety is frequently the stressor that makes us too jumpy to fall back asleep, amplifying tension and energy that prevents us from falling asleep. I often get that feeling just from feeling worried that I’ll wake up too late from the distinct implausible chance of my alarm giving me a missed call by trying to ring without there being any reception, lol. Sometimes even the anxiety over the thought that I may have anxiety would keep me awake, too.
