Health & Fitness : Longest Flu You've Had?

Longest Flu You've Had?

And what did you do about it? (Besides going to the doctor, which is not a choice for me)

I feel better when I sweat a bit, as I sat outside on my porch for a bit. Those who don't believe in "sweating it out" usually just mention dehydration, but if you're drinking juice/water, you would replenish this, right?

I had the flu a few months ago that lasted for 3 weeks, but this time, I went 2 weeks without adequate sleep, until last night. My biggest problems has been the body aches and chills, even when its 80 F inside. Very weak, but I'm going to monitor the day to compare sleep vs. sleepless. I did go for a 5 minute walk in the morning just to get my blood moving. My temperature was actually 97.1 F, and when I took my blood pressure, instead of being high, it was pretty low, but those at-home kits might not be too accurate.

The funny thing is, at night, if its not freezing cold, I cannot sleep. And I noticed after a good night's sleep, I have no breathing problems today - I felt like every time I'd inhale, I wouldn't get enough, was dizzy, confused, but its still early morning here.

Dude, I think you’re dying. Go see a doctor.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

I had Influenza about 25 years ago, the symptoms lasted about two weeks and then as a result of that I got Bronchitis, it was only at that point that I went to the doctor and she prescribed antibiotics. If you're having shortness of breath you should see a doctor if you can.

One thing I find works, if you can't sleep, is an antihistamine. A good old fashioned knock you out one, not the non drowsy version.

But yeah it's usually just a case of waiting it out, paracetamol and ibuprofen to keep your fever down. Keep warm or use a fan to stay cool, whatever you need.

If you're too hot have a luke warm bath and dry naturally.

Drink lots of course, little sips if you can't keep it down, chamomile tea and honey is nice and easy on the tum, also helps you sleep.

Hope you feel better soon, sounds like you've turned a corner.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

Diphenhydramine and other things in antihistamines screw up my breathing. I do take xanax at night to help me sleep. And up until today, I'd wake up, feel like I had to sneeze, and struggled for over an hour before I did.

I seem to get mild symptoms of everything I mentioned whenever I don't get 8 hours of sleep. I feel so good today I don't want it to end!

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

Have you ever been checked for asthma, like after your last bout of flu did you end up with a persistent cough or anything?

I agree those aches and chills are the worst part of the symptoms, I think I'd have taken anything to get relief from those!

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

3 days, i Used it to kick fegs.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

When I do have the flu, I usually kill it within a day.

One of my loos doubles as a sauna with the glass doors on the shower stall, so I’ll turn on the steam and sit in there, and sweat that fucka outta there. It literally has nowhere to go but be killed.

Then I drink a lot tea after. Ginger tea, green tea, hot. Antioxidants, cleans your pipes. They’re not hard to kill.

I want my pink shirt back.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

If you recovered in a day it wasn't flu.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

Bollocks! You probably had a cold and even a cold lasts longer than a day, stop with your nonsense.

Hey, which one of the two of us has a doctorate? Oh, me. Thanks come again.

What's the relevance? Do people with doctorates not get the flu as bad as others?

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

I still had it, but it was functional. I still went to work and stuff. I do a lot of remedies to kill the virus throughout the day. I gulp whole orange juice containers, whiskey, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs. I literally kill the fucker so that it cannot survive in my body.

I want my pink shirt back.

Sweating is great.. My studio doesn't have air conditioning, and after 20 minutes of playing drums, I'm sweating a ton, and feeling better.

And to reply to earlier posts - I wouldn't go to the doctor if I was bleeding out of my eyeballs.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

Mine took 6 weeks to go completely. I was pissed off because I'd had the flu vaccination, and the one strain of flu they'd left out of the shot was the one I got.

Re: Longest Flu You've Had?

That's way too long, NZer!

I had gotten a flu shot one year and some bonehead where my dad was working came to work sick and infected everyone

I seriously don't see how he could have went to work because the fever was painful
