Re: CAKE!

I'd even settle for one of those.

Re: CAKE!

Make it count. Go to a bakery, maybe a vegan one (?) and get one slice of cake.

Enjoy yourself. You keep a super strict diet and fitness program, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

In fact, technically, it's good for us to alternate our caloric intake, and occasionally eat "too much," while on other days to eat "a little less". It keeps our metabolism from stagnating.

Re: CAKE!

I was eating about 2300 calories a day and reduced it down to about 1700-1800. Today I didn't do too good I went to about a 2000. I was at about 1850 before a banana and chocolate chips were staring me in the face. Plus Bambi loves bananas so I shared it with her.

Re: CAKE!

Aww, Bambi likes banana? That's so cute. I don't know of any other dogs that eat bananas. Nice of you to share with her. Need a picture of her nibbling on one!

Re: CAKE!

I'm debating on whether or not I need to take her to the vet. She's been vomiting off and on and today she just wanted to eat grass when I took her out which I knew she was going to throw up and sure enough she threw up right when we got back in. Not to be gross but I may have saw some black in her stool the other day too. But she eats so much crap off the floors and gets into everything so who knows what that could have been. But she is eating and acting normal other than that. Still wanting to play all the time so I'm clueless what to do.

Re: CAKE!

My dog has been eating a lot of grass lately, and at the dog park, a few other people and I were talking about how our dogs (collectively) have been eating a lot of grass. Sometimes he throws it up, and sometimes he doesn't.

You can always call the vet and ask them, just describe the situation, and they can maybe give you some feedback on if she needs to come in. I'm almost wondering if a factor is some type of seasonal thing given so many of our dogs are grass-bingeing. But you live on the other side of the country, soooo…..I dunno.

Re: CAKE!

I know they do that sometimes when their stomachs are upset but it seems like lately the last two days she's been running over to where the grass was just to eat it. I'll see how she does in the next day or so. Like I mentioned, with all the stuff she gets into it doesn't surprise me her stomach gets upset, but I'm still concerned it could be something more serious.

Re: CAKE!

Yep, same here. He's been doing it for days. Sometimes we go out potty, but the only thing he does is graze on the grass, and that's it. He did it twice today already, just eating grass…

Does she vomit every single time? If not, it could be, as you said, just an upset tummy. We all have days where we don't feel well.

If you're feeling unsure, maybe just phone the vet and let them know.

Why do dogs eat grass, plants and dirt?

There are a variety of reasons a dog might be eating grass, plants, and dirt.
Some people propose that dogs might turn to eating grass when they don’t feel well as a way to make themselves vomit, and then feel better. Others dispute this idea.

Evidence suggests that most dogs that eat grass aren’t unwell beforehand, or at least they don’t seem so. In fact, fewer than 10% of dogs seem to be sick before eating grass, according to their owners. And grass-eating doesn’t usually lead to throwing up, as less than 25% of dogs that eat grass vomit regularly after grazing.

Other suggested reasons why a dog might be eating grass, plants, and dirt include improving digestion, boredom, treating intestinal worms, or fulfilling some unmet nutritional need, including the need for fiber.

Re: CAKE!

She didn't vomit yesterday when she ate the grass. Off and on she'll throw up clear, foam.

Re: CAKE!

Yep, that's usually what my dog does. If he's going to throw up after eating grass, it comes out as white, frothy foam with the blades of grass in it. It's not uncommon.

Re: CAKE!

She likes Strawberries too on occasion and Brocolli. The only thing she won't eat is leafy greens. Oh and olives.

Re: CAKE!

Make sure she never eats grapes. They are very toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure.

Re: CAKE!

Yes that's what I read. Also avocado and chocolate.

Re: CAKE!

Yep, I was going to mention the grapes and avocado.

Re: CAKE!

I never knew about grapes till recently. Onions apparently are harmful as
Well.

Re: CAKE!

I also wouldn't feed them anything from the nightshade family.

I give my dog a cup of frozen mixed veggies every night: corn, lima beans, green beans, carrots, peas, corn. He gets fibre and moisture, and because they're frozen, he gets to nibble them like a crunchy treat. I don't stray from those basics.

My vet gave me a magnet to put on the fridge about what NOT to feed a dog.

Re: CAKE!

Are potatoes a nightshade? I gave her some once.

Re: CAKE!

Is potato a nightshade?

All potatoes are nightshades, green potatoes and potatoes that have started to sprout should be avoided because they are toxic. To make it confusing, sweet potatoes are not part of the nightshade family, they are part of the Convolvulaceae family of plants. This also includes any spices from the nightshade family like paprika or cayenne pepper.
