Presidents have to present a clean-cut, Christian look.

A politician wouldn't get elected president if he didn't claim to be a Christian and be somewhat physically attractive. The average American is biased against ugly people and atheists.

Technically they are hiding their faces.

Men who are gaining weight often grow a beard to obscure that fact. Perhaps all bearded men are secretly fatasses.
