Ivanka, Donald Trump donated to Kamala Harris' campaign for California attorney

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 21: . Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) speaks to reporters after announcing her candidacy for President of the United States, at Howard University, her alma mater, on January 21, 2019 in … more

President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka each donated to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) when she was running for reelection to the office of California Attorney General several years ago, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Before serving in the Senate and announcing her presidential run, Harris was elected as California's attorney general in 2010. She ran for reelection in 2014, and also won that race.

It was during her first term as attorney general that the Trump family donated to her campaign. In 2011, President Trump gave Harris $5,000; he gave another $1,000 in 2013. Then in 2014, Ivanka Trump donated $2,000.

. Times reporter Javier Panzar previously reported that Donald Trump donated to Harris' campaign. (Panzar also reported that Trump similarly donated to the campaigns of Gavin Newsom in 2009 and Jerry Brown in 2006.)

However, as the Bee now reports, Harris' spokesperson Ian Sams says Harris didn't use Trump's donation. Rather, in 2015 — a year after she had already been reelected and was working toward a Senate run — she gave the $6,000 to a nonprofit that works to secure civil rights for Central Americans.

Trump has previously brushed off his bipartisan donations as a business strategy.

"I give to to everybody," he said in a debate in 2015. "They call, I give. And you know what, when I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them, they are there for me."

In any case, any admiration the two ever had for each other appears to have completely deteriorated. Last July, the White House's official Twitter account accused Harris of "supporting the animals of MS-13."

Then, last month, Harris told The Root that she believes the president is a racist, saying, "When you talk about him calling African countries s—hole countries, when you talk about him referring to immigrants as rapists and murderers, I don't think you can reach any other conclusion."
