Science : Why planets have a round shape?

Why planets have a round shape?

because gravity sucks

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

Because gravity pulls from all the sides toward the center. Even if a planet started out as a triangle, it'd become a spherical eventually with gravity's pull.

Dumb question.

I could see you living on the Planet of the Apes..

You can't top the Pop

And you'll be one of them..

I would live on the Planet of Prehistoric Women…

Oh soz. I have the layout where the boards are black in color, so the spoiler blended in with the background color.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

Why are asteroids - some even bigger than the planets of our solar system - often random in shape?

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

… asteroids - some even bigger than the planets of our solar system …
Which asteroid is bigger than a planet? It would have to be one of those fake ones depicted on The Twilight Zone. which are coincidentally, the same size as the earth!

Gravity of course pulls a planetoid into a sphere if it is large enough. The more solid the asteroid, the bigger it has to be to become spherical.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

There was a huge one a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. It had a big dinosaur snake thing living inside it.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

Yes, and a giant worker bee constructed the hexagon on Saturn's North Pole.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

Hexagons are naturally occurring shapes.

So I was wondering, how the fuck did that thing survive on the asteroid in Empire?

Anybody?

Do you think they'll ever discover a planet that looks like a soccer ball?

Probably not. I don't think pentagons are naturally occurring shapes.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

There is no gravity. The earth sucks.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

The truth is, we do not know why. We have given the phenomenon a term, gravity, but we do not know what causes it. It is one of the biggest mysteries in science.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

Everything I have ever read about gravity has emphasized that the root cause of it is unknown. The existence of the theoretical graviton has never been proven. I have seen other theories using some other quantum idea to explain gravity, and other theories still, suggesting gravity is just an emergent phenomenon. There doesn't seem to be an answer yet. I am not an expert or anything, I am just going on what I have heard.

All the other shapes were patented Lara - a sad but true fact

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

And obviously Microsoft hold the fully square shape, it's not easy being a planet these days

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

So they can spin a-round of course.

Re: Why planets have a round shape?

The Earth is flat, junior.
