This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

She requests to leave repeatedly, and he insists she stays, blocking her path, closing the curtains on her, touching her without asking. He took her coat and hat off multiple times after she put it back on. This wouldn't fly in a movie today lol

That's the original from Neptune's Daughter (1949). Awful singing and the film is forgettable. Here's my favorite version with two great singers of the day, Dean Martin and Doris Day:

Re: This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

I know it's meant to be flirty, but some of those lyrics are questionable.

"What's in this drink?" isn't even the worst. That I understand. She was referring to what type of alcohol. But that has a different connotation today.

But she says "I'll have to say no, no, no" and he responds with "can I move in slow?"

She just said no three times!

And then he says "why hurt my pride?" in response to her wanting to leave, as if she should agree a blotch to his ego is a good enough reason for her to stay and sleep with him.

A woman who genuinely wants to stay isn't going to come up with so many excuses to leave. Playing hard-to-get is one thing, but she's literally giving him multiple reasons and excuses why she has to leave. If she were only pretending she wanted to leave hoping the man would ask her to stay, she would've taken him up on his first offer. But she declined multiple times. Or, the man could've called her bluff and let her get ready to leave only to wait for his signal. But that's not the case here; he's being insistent.

And it's not as if the man is asking her to stay only because he cares about her well-being being out in the cold, offering that she can stay and sleep on the couch. He's insisting she stay for sexual reasons.

Then he ignores her when she talks about her brother and sister being suspicious if she's out, changing the subject to sexual implications. He isn't showing signs of interest in what she has to say but only interested in getting in her panties.

The above movie clip makes it worse, where we see him blocking her path, closing the blinds on her, touching her multiple times while she pushes his hand away, and removing the same article of clothing form her 3-4 times while she puts it back on each time.

It's a rather unintentionally creepy song. It's not romantic at all. It's just creepy.

Re: This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

Why compare though?

Why does this have to be a liberal vs conservative thing?

The vulgar language of the 2nd doesn't forgive the creepy nature of the first.

They're apples and oranges, really. That rap song already isn't mainstream and it isn't played on mainstream radio. It's vulgarness and explicit language and sexism are intentional and direct.

The former was made as a family-friendly Christmas song and it wasn't intended to degrading, which signals how women and men were viewed at that time in the 40s.

Re: This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

It has nothing to do with rape, it's considered a Christmas song so the left hates it and wants it banned. I don't know why people keep giving in to these animals, it will never be enough. They are literally on a mission to destroy anything and everything that certain people enjoy. They're fascists, and they lie about being incredibly offended as justification to get whatever it is banned. The left are horrible, evil human beings.

Re: This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

Ok your hatred of the left and their fascism is another issue entirely. The question is "is the song creepy?" It's not a left vs right issue. People shouldn't let their politics filter their thinking.

Noting the song is creepy by today's standards doesn't make one a liberal. It's an observation picked up from listening to the song. I'm not a PC person, but it has questionable lyrics in there that suggests the patriarchy we had in the 40s. it's hard to see the humor in it, outdated nowadays, when the song is based on the man's insistence the woman have sex with him despite her reluctancy.

Anyway i don't think anything should be banned. But putting together a logical analysis based on our culture that it's creepy by today's era doesn't make one a liberal by default. Inappropriate behavior isn't a liberal vs conservative issue. It's something we can tangibly observe.

Re: This scene from this old family Christmas film would be disturbing today

It absolutely is left vs right on this one. This is a very old song, and was never considered offensive until Democrat slimebags started giving credibility to social justice nut cases who are Hell bent on destroying everything.
