Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Do you think companies have the right to fire employees based on what they say on social media? What if it's a private Facebook page only meant for the person's Facebook friends to read, but one of the person's Facebook friends shows the comments to the person's employer?

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Yes…No…Maybe…. depends on the situation.

Yuk yuk yuk

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Depends. A minor offensive joke? No. Sincere racist, sexist, etc. shit? Yes.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Saying something racist shouldn't be a big deal, doing something racist is a lot different

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Yeah, there's a grey area. Depends on the job too. Wouldn't want a racist cop, racist boss, etc.

Either way, it is legal. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you don't have to deal with the consequences of what you say.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

What if a cop says they hate black people, or a teacher says they hate kids, or a beloved, handsome actor makes a few sexy mistakes when interacting with some women he thought were mature enough to handle it without getting the whole world involved in their private affairs?

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Things are not always fair in life.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

I think what you do in your personal life is exactly that, your personal life. People have a right to express their opinions.

Even if they are not popular opinions.
I have this argument with liberals all the time. With their Self Righteous finger pointing bull shit.

A person should be able to say what he/she wants to without fear of reprisal. Or Firing. You can be provocative or even borderline Racist in your Rants online.

But if they cant show specific instances or cases of bias . Or they can't prove that you have now taken your opinions and made them part of your daily work routine, then honestly it's all bullshit.

The perfect example is how they forced the L.A. Clippers Owner to sell his team based on something he said on his living room couch. A private conversation that was not meant for public use.

So becauae he said some borderline Racist things he was deemed unfit to own a team. I say bullshit.

Why do I say that?

Because the NBA league office could not even show 1 case or 1 example of racial bias or prejudice done by him the entire time he owned the team.

His players were some of the highest paid players in the league even though the team never won anything. Or came close to winning for that matter.

His Coach Doc Rivers was paid by Donald Sterling an annual Salary that put him in the top 5% of coaches in the league. So compensation and respect were always given and given generously.

The NBA was wrong. And so are employers when they violate your privacy and your Right to self expression.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

I agree generally, but the issue with Donald Sterling was his ownership became a problem to the league, which is largely composed of black athletes. They were offended by Sterlings comments and could have refused to play until something was done, which they have a right to do. Not doing something risked damaging the game, so the front office was forced to act for the good of the brand. Donald Sterling voluntarily sold the team for 2 billion dollars before the league made any ruling, so he made out ok.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

You are not a naive person so why act naive in this conversation?

There was nothing voluntarily about his selling of the team. He was forced out plain and simple.

As for the Players boycotting, they would never give him their meal tickets. So I call bull shit on that.

No offense But it's like you just read a New York Times editorial and just posted it on this board.

What was done to him was wrong and not in keeping with the Rule of Law in American Society.

By the way to show why I am a legitimate voice on this issue, Sterling was talking ill of Magic Johnson.

Who may ask why that matters?

Magic Johnson is not only my favorite NBA player of all time but one if my favorite people of all time. I love the guy.

However my affection for Magic cannot stop me from being completely objective on this issue. Sterling was treated unfairly.

The amount of money he got for the team is not relevant to the discussion.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

So, if someone murders babies, as long as it's kept out of the workplace, it's ok?

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Stupid buffoon comparing the murder of infants to an off colored Racial remark said in a Man's living room.

This guy above gives new meaning to the word dunce.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Funny thing is that guy above you actually fully supports the slaughter of babies.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Nah, just the abortion of early term fetuses and late term if the fetus poses a danger to the mother.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

A fetus is not a baby, it's a cluster of cells.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

I am using an extreme to make a point. We can argue degree later, but we need to first establish that there are reasons one's personal life is relevant. Moron.

Also, are you going to answer me in the thread about pics? Ready to man up?

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Yes, the employers have the right to decide how to handle it.

No

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?
No.

Re: Should people lose their jobs because of social media comments?

no. it depends on the country

in the US? No-we have free speech

IMO private companies in the US should follow the Constitution- which includes the 1st amendment.

as long a they are in the US, they should be forced to follow US laws.
They dont. businesses ae moe like a dictatorship

for example. PA and NJ are an AT WILL state where they can fire you without any reason.

its totally wrong IMO, because its unfair and you are at the mercy of your boss.

it only should apply to if you will cost the business money or repuation

for example. If they find out you work for a company and you say "ALL FUCKING NIGGERS MUST FUCKING HANG" that could cost the company business- then they should fire you

but if you tell a harmless black joke , NO.

thats why you should always uses VPN,Ip locator scrambler and NEVER EVER say anything on your real FB page

have at least 2 FB pages

one with your real name and one with a fake one that you can say anything you want on.
