Deepwater Horizon : Berg started out as such a promising director

Berg started out as such a promising director

Very Bag Things was a pretty entertaining black comedy

Friday Night Lights was fine for what it was

The Kingdom was really good

Now he's just a Michael Bay clone BattleshipLone Survivor Now this American flags waving all over the place Over the top special effects.

Sad what has become of him.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Amen. Though I'm not even sure he started off all that promising.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

The Rundown is still one of the best adventure/action films of recent memory. Wish he stuck with that kind of thing.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

I liked The Kingdom, had a cool Michael Mann feel about it, but this and Lone Survivor are very uninteresting to me. And Battleship, wow forgot about that one. Maybe he's just a really patriotic guy, but it kind of feels like pandering at this point.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Don't forget about the Rundown, one of the most enjoyable action/adventure movies from the early 2000s. Definitely the Rock's best lead performance as an action star.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Berg is just another interchangeable Hollywood Ho.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

His career trajectory is similar to Alex Proyas's

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

God, how can someone go from the likes of The Crow and Dark City to Gods of Egypt? I practically worshipped the young Alex Proyas when I was a teen, now we're both 20 years older I watch his earlier movies and cry tears of sadness.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Lone Survivor was a very good modern war movie. He has also always been a military fan. The only "Michael Bay" clone movie he made was Battleship.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Lone Survivor-military men who lost their lives because they made a moral choice.

Deepwater Horizon- Working men who were attempting to earn a good living for their family's. Many of whom lost their lives and many of whom did heroic things during a horrible accident.

Yeah what a hack Berg is for wanting to tell the world these peoples stories.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Oh, Sorry I drifted off during your American Patriotic Crap

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Mangoon just sent me a PM of a list of his favourite movies:

- Act Of Valor
- 13 Hours
- Pearl Harbor
- American Sniper
- Red Dawn (both versions)

and a video he made himself that's just 24 hours of the American flag waving in the wind.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

You forgot
- any Chuck Norris movie in which he wears a military uniform
- any John Wayne movie in which he wears a military uniform
- Heartbreak Ridge
- GI Jane
- the secret life of pets

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

Good answer sir Well done.

Re: Berg started out as such a promising director

He was never that good in the first place. Very generic. At least triumphalism has the potential to be kinda rousing. It's preferable to masquerading as having something substantial to say Might as well go for dumb sentiment than try to be intelligent, and fail.
