Has anyone else seen "Panic in Year Zero"?

It's a low budget b&w film which came out in 1962, ironically a few months before the Cuban Missle Crisis (google it, kids). It's about the aftermath of the nuclear destruction of LA. The star, Ray Milland, and his family take refuge in the hills north of LA, and have to struggle to survive as lawlessness breaks out.

The special effects are a bit thin, and the jazzy 60's musical score is a irritating at times. And his wife and daughter are portrayed as complete idiots. But it's not bad for 1962. I give it a 7/10. IMDB rates it at 6.8.

I've seen it with no desire to see it again. There were special effects?

The Cuban Missal Crisis? Did the churches run out of prayer books? 😊

Re: Has anyone else seen "Panic in Year Zero"?

Yes there were minimal special effects. They showed a still shot of an H Bomb exploding with a bit of light blinking at the bottom. As I said, the effects were thin.

Missal Crisis. Ooops! You got me there. Senior moment. LOL.

Fixed it. Thanks.

Almost! Say it as a Brit would.

Now sure how a Brit would say that.

Any old film with Ray Milland is always murky and annoying. "The Man with the X-ray Eyes" was exceptionally so. There's a certain dread which is artful but the whole mein sinks to bottom feeding.

I haven't seen that one, but it's rated 6.7 on IMDB, and got a B+ from Oz. Not too bad. BTW, did you know that Don Rickles was in that flick?

Hmmm. It's been years since I've seen it. I just know it always left me with a headache.

Take some Tylenol.

You know this is a fascinating example of the difference between here and MC. I've received numerous responses here. I posted the same thing over in LOLL (Little Old Lady Land) three hours ago, and have received zero responses. Nothing, nichts, nada, niente,
le rien, nil!

This place may be a toilet but at least we have some live bodies who will respond to an obscure post like this. Just sayin'…

Re: Has anyone else seen "Panic in Year Zero"?

I saw it so long ago I've forgotten almost everything about it apart from being disappointed. We had a black and white TV back then so the film being in black and white wasn't that noticeable.

Re: Has anyone else seen "Panic in Year Zero"?

Good little end of the world flick. I like how it shows how easily society can degenerate into barbaric chaos in the wake of a catastrophic event.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: Has anyone else seen "Panic in Year Zero"?

I agree. Most people today would not like it because they're more interested in moronic car chases, explosions and CGI (idiots).
