Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

Reading two or more books at the same time?

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

How does this work? Do you jump to and fro in between chapters or what? I wonder if receiving information this way is stimulating for the brain at all. While different, reminds me a bit of these exercises you hear about that take a daily routine so common it's committed to muscle memory and switching it up so you have to think about it again (think brushing your teeth with the opposite hand). While that example sounds more like an exercise a neurologist would have a patient with some form of brain damage perform in rehabilitation, the concept is interesting.

I wonder if catfishing, taking yourself out of your real life persona to suit up as a character, is likewise stimulating? Perhaps Karliah is off somewhere brushing her teeth with her unfavored hand, keeping the catfish mind sharp, as it were.

It can be dangerous can lead to mental breakdown and dementia proceed at your own caution or w.e.

It's fun at the beginning. Can get tedious. Try it.

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

At any given time I'm reading 3 books. One when I'm in bed at night. One when I'm on the toilet pooping. And one at work, when I'm bored. Currently:

Book in bed: Chasing Space by Leland Melvin (former Lion's football player turn astronaut)

Book on the pooper: Rock Hudson, His Story: Sara Davidson

At work: Nothing at the moment.

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

Yeah, reading multiple books at the "same time" isn't uncommon at all, that's why I was curious to what extent it was "simultaneous."

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

Try reading 5-10 !

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

it would be cool if you could train your eyes to act independently and read a different book with each eye. sandy duncan could only read one book tho :(

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

You could set up some virtual reality goggles to display a different text to each eye but you might need to sever your corpus callosum for it to work. Kim Peek was able to read two books simultaneously because he didn't have one.

Re: Have you ever heard of parallel reading/simulreading ?

I taught myself French reading parallel Jules Verne when I was a kid. I never studied it in school. I did study first semesters of German and Italian in college, but I don't know those languages as well.
