Betrayed by God. Cursed by his Blessed Angels. Hated by Everyone.

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

I have to admit. 2nd video is the most beautiful music i;ve heard in my lifetime. I feel a deep connection to the ancient israelites who used to worship G-d.

Betrayed by God. Cursed by his Blessed Angels. Hated by Everyone.

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

Nice! I prefer Aramaic personally.

Betrayed by God. Cursed by his Blessed Angels. Hated by Everyone.

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

Then you probably prefer the mourner's kaddish. A lot of Jews don't realize that it's Aramaic, not Hebrew.

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

That early Aramaic alphabet looks a lot like paleo Hebrew. The names of the letters are very close. It's just more practical to write Aramaic in Hebrew script.

Historically, Aramaic was the language of Aramean tribes, a Semitic people of the region around between the Levant and the northern Euphrates valley. By around 1000 BC, the Arameans had a string of kingdoms in what is now part of western Syria. Aramaic rose to prominence under the Neo-Assyrians (911–605 BC), under whose influence Aramaic became a prestige language and its use spread throughout most of Mesopotamia and the Levant. At its height, variants of Aramaic were spoken in all over what is today Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Palestinian territories, Kuwait, Eastern Arabia, Northern Arabia, and to a lesser extent parts of southeast and south central Turkey, and parts of northwest Iran.. Aramaic was the language of Jesus, who spoke the Galilean dialect during his public ministry, as well as the language of large sections of the biblical books of Daniel and Ezra, and also one of the languages of the Talmud. The Arameans, or Aramaeans (Aramaic: ܐܪ̈ܡܝܐ‎, ʼaramáyé), were an ancient Northwest Semitic Aramaic-speaking tribal confederation who emerged from the region known as Aram (in present-day Syria) in the Late Bronze Age (11th to 8th centuries BC). They established a patchwork of independent Aramaic kingdoms in the Levant and seized large tracts of Mesopotamia.

Use of the Western Aramaic language has steadily declined in the face of Arabic since the Arab Islamic conquest of the area in the 7th century AD, and the last vestiges of the spoken tongue in and around Maalula are in danger of extinction.

The Arameans never formed a unified state but had small independent kingdoms across parts of the Near East, (present-day Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Palestinian territories, the northwestern Arabian peninsula and south-central Turkey). Their political influence was confined to a number of states such as Aram Damascus, Hamath, Palmyra, Aleppo and the partly Aramean Syro-Hittite states, which were entirely absorbed into the Neo-Babylonian Empire by the 9th century BC. In the New Babylonian (or Chaldean) Empire, the Chaldeans, Aramaeans, Suteans and indigenous Babylonians became largely indistinguishable.

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

Shalom,

Here's an often recited Jewish prayer that is in Aramaic, not Hebrew, but the alphabet is definitely Hebrew:

Re: SHEMA YISRAEL

Afaik this prayer was written either after the destruction of the first temple during exile or during the exile period after the destruction of the 2nd temple.
