Suggestions, requests, questions, and bugs : Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Владим

Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Владим

Too often character codes are showing up inconsistently.

I recently PM'd a friend with a SUBJECT in Russian. It shows up normally in the SENT listing, but when you open the message, the title is all HTML Unicode. It's those inconsistencies that I find irritating.

When my friend tried to reply, he couldn't. The Subject bar was filled with 7-char HTML Unicode and he had to replace it with English. Maybe emojis in usernames is a bit ambitious, but rendering foreign alphabets without all the character codes is all about Unicode compatibility.

I was able to enter Владимир Путин (Vladimr Putin) in the subject on an original post, but it breaks down on editing into seven-digit codes that overwhelm the subject line.

Half-way loss of subject. How?

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Владимир Путин

This post cannot be edited without losing part of the subject.

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Владимир &

It appears there has been a partial fix. New subjects translate the HTML when you open for editing, but the old ones? Not yet it seems.

Unicode now displays in the bio, at least the Russian. The biggest problem there is the stripping of line feeds.

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Влади

i pop in once every two months to look like i'm on the ball. it's good for board moral. if it causes an increase in board suggestions though, i won't be doing this again.

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Влади

But I have so many suggestions and requests!

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Влади

Glad you're working on it. I hate seeing all that unicode garbage in the subject. Can't say it's partially fixed when it's still somewhat unpredictable. Why is it that most websites consistently translate FROM the code, but this one still seems to translate TO the code? Thanks for giving it some priority.

Re: Wider interpretation of HTML Unicode: Влади

the database here wasn't set up to handle unicode initially. it's being implemented now, but until it's complete, there will be cases where the html entities are displayed. it is just temporary. it will all be fixed soon*.
