Re: Italian or Latina?

Yeah but it's hilarious how there is an uproar usually when black Americans are cast in Latino(a) roles

Re: Italian or Latina?

She's very Italian. In fact, almost half of the cast of CSI NY is Italian. ITALIANS ROCK!

If you want to understand me, watch my movies Robert Downey Jr. as Charlie Chaplin in CHAPLIN

Re: Italian or Latina?

Two of the cast are Italian. Melina Kanakaredes (Bonasera) is Greek. Some people think she's Italian too.

Re: Italian or Latina?

Re: Italian or Latina?

Yeaqh, Carmine. I think Gary Sinise is Italian too. So that would be 4.

Steve Irwin 1962 - 2006 RIP, mate! Boycott PETA!

Re: Italian or Latina?

I dont think Sinise is Italian.

I shall make him an offer he cant refuse - The Godfather.

Re: Italian or Latina?

With a name like Carmine Giovinazzo, you HAVE to be Italian.

I shall make him an offer he cant refuse - The Godfather.

Re: Italian or Latina?

i think shes sexy.

i am italian and i have been 5b4mistaken for egyptian, russian, all kinds of things but never latina. and i have never really considered myself to be latina. although when i think about it spanish and italian are very similar languages.

Re: Italian or Latina?

Not only are they similar, they come from the same place! They are both examples of romance languages, which all come from latin.

As far as how Miss Ferlito looks, I'll just leave it as she's hot. In all honesty, the problem people have with this is that almost no ethnicity looks all the same. There are people in South America that look like what the stereotype of a swedish person would be (tall, blonde, etc). I have a friend who is from Italy who people sometimes thinks is latin or even african (when he has a tan). I've given up on trying to figure out peoples ethnicity by looking at them. Hell, I thought Christana Milan was African American.

Re: Italiana

Latins, yes, going way back. Just not in the Hispanic sense of Latin America or Latinas/Latinos.

"Come on, pelican!"

Re: Italian or Latina?

Her name and looks struck me as more Hispanic; what with the cultural/linguistic connections going so far back, there are a lot of similarities. I was admittedly surprised to find out she was Italian, which is funny because I'm half Sicilian myself and am always getting asked if I'm any of a bunch of other ethnicities, Hispanic included.

"Come on, pelican!"

Re: Italian or Latina?

I call myself italian, not latin

Re: Italian or Latina?

Okay?

"Come on, pelican!"

"so if someone called me latin id punch them in the face"

That would certainly teach them how very intelligent you are. How would you answer with words?

How do you look PR?

Re: Italian or Latina?

I thought Italian was Latin? I mean that is where she is coming from.

Re: Italian or Latina?

I have nothing against the Italians in fact I love them and the Latinas but I have four words.

Long live the Irish.

Re: Italian or Latina?

In the US: Latin = people from South America, NOT French (who are latin) or Italian or Spanish (people from Spain).

Yes, I'm Italian and I can't speak english.

Re: Italian or Latina?

She's gorgeous. <-period

Re: Italian or Latina?

She does look Puerto Rican. And to the person who asked how do you look Puerto Rican-they DO have distintive features. They're features are not entirely Caucausoid..lol.

I understood exactly what that person meant-she doesn't look Italian@ all to me.

"Are you suffering?"

Re: Italian or Latina?

In the US: Latin = people from South America, NOT French (who are latin) or Italian or Spanish (people from Spain).

Actually in america it is perceived that anyone from a spanish speaking country is latin. Whether they be from Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Argentina or wherever.

Re: Italian or Latina?

Brazilians are considered latin in the US too and they speak portuguese.

Re: Italian or Latina?

Let's put this to rest right now:

There is a difference between latin, latino, and Latino (note the capital L).

latin (lowercase) is an adjective describing anything relating to the romance languages, which includes Italian, French, etc., as some have noted here.

Latino (uppercase) is an adjective or noun describing someone of Latin American descent (note: NOT South American, but Latin American, which includes South America, Central America and the Caribbean).

latino is not a word in the Eng16d0lish language. They are, however, words in the Spanish and Italian languages, that mean the same as latin (lowercase) in English. Since we're all talking in English here, this word is not relevant to this conversation.

When someone is described as looking Latino or Latina, this means they look to be of Latin American descent and NOT Italian, unless they are speaking some language other than English.

When someone is described as looking latin, then this does include Italian.

Now, let's all make sure we are saying what we MEAN to say. People often incorrectly use these two words interchangeably, as if they meant the same thing.

Finally, it should be noted that all Latinos are latin. Not all who are latin are Latinos.

Re: Italian or Latina?

proudlatino, you make some good and important points, however you are wrong that "Latino" does not represent Italians in your following quote:

"When someone is described as looking Latino or Latina, this means they look to be of Latin American descent and NOT Italian, unless they are speaking some language other than English".

Latino does not only represent Latins from the New World or Latin America but also the European Region where it originated from. Christopher Columbus was a Latino from Italy, and Amerigo Vespuchi was the Italian Latino that this continent is named after(America)land of Amerigo. So you see Latino includes all Latino migrants from the Mediterranean. The reason the term Latino is so commonly used and corrected to be used is from political correctness that not all Latinos speak Spanish. I agree with this, but most Spanish speakers from Latin America are from Countries where Spanish is the common, or official language. Another problem with the Term Latino and your take on it, is that it is used as a euphemism; because the term Hispanic became a "Cultural Taboo".

Re: Italian or Latina?

Caucausoid is very broad. Arab, Indians, Hispanics are Caucausoid. I think you mean European White.

Re: Italian or Latina?

yea, I thought she could be Puerto Rican.
