The movie had nightmarish moral dilemmas and a bittersweet ending. It was an actual STORY and a metaphor for loneliness and despair. It had cool special effects (my favorite was the zero G swimming pool) but it did not rely on the special effects for lack of a good story as some movies do (like some of the Transformers movies which are all an excuse to show off special effects).
This movie was thinking man's science fiction, like Gattica and In Time and Equals.

It was a gawd awful boring movie. Ranks down with Arrival.
Huh ? Arrival was awasome, and this movie was not that bad either, okay I expected a bit more to happen after watching the trailer but still a nice movie with nice images and some great effects.

I am still thinking about it 1 day later and I usually forget about the movie I have just seen just about few minutes after the end credits. Love story? Not the main theme Sci-fi movie? Not the main part Emotional rollercoaster with lots of "omg what I would do in that same situation"? Oh yes, that's it!
I am sorry but are you sure you watched "Passengers"? The one starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt?

I enjoyed it too. Definitely lots of moral what ifs. It was well shot, decent acting and just when I thought it was getting a bit slow paced it upped it's game. I also liked the use of bass during the ships sling shot. My chair was vibrating with resonance, very clever if intentional. Had a few good laughs early doors too. Yep enjoyed it a lot. You're allowed to like films that others don't, so
don't be put off by the herd that probably haven't seen it and are downloading several movies as they type.

I have to say, after seeing the movie, the negative viral reaction has been way over done. I am thinking the over the top negative posts sharing the same language like "Crapengers" are actually the shill accounts trying to boost another film. Based on the negative feedback I almost didn't go see it and I am sure the tactic worked on others.
The film is average - definitely not terrible and certainly not classic. I can definitely tolerate someone saying it is "one of the best of the year" considering this year has been mediocre at best (so far my favorites are Swiss Army Man, Captain Fantastic, and the Lobster). I don't understand how this film could generate so many wildly emotional negative reactions that necessitate visiting message boards to troll anyone that felt positively about the film.

I liked the film. I'm rather shocked to read talk of rape. I didn't feel that Aurora was forced to have sex against her will. She was justifiably angry about what Jim had done and he was wrong to do it, but he was understandably lonely and I think that more than anything was his motivation. I think she fell in love with him and wanted to have a physical relationship with him. What Jim did was unforgivable and yet in the end she chose to forgive him. I thought it was a film with real heart.

By waking her up she was able to help him save the entire ship. So they saved 5000 lives even though they died early.

If you only expected hard sci fi without a romance mixed in, you clearly did not see a single preview nor any of the cast appearances on talk shows to promote the film.

I actually really liked the movie and deliberately avoid looking into any discussion of a film prior to its release, and was only aware of the basic premise. Going in with a clear head definitely helped, and I'll be treating RT scores with a pinch of salt from now on. This is the first time since The Paperboy I've been taken aback at how off the mark I feel the critics consensus has been, and they seem to have made their mind up on the Pratt/Lawrence relationship without seeing how the film confronts the issue. If this is how they react off the bat to original screenplays, this is why we can't have nice things.
Not sure how to pass the Turing test or prove I'm not a shill (it's rare I'm so indignant or impassioned about something that I'll make the effort to comment in this minefield). But yeah, for what it's worth I thought it was a good film.

It was an OK film for what it was and nice to see a sci-fi film on the big screen. The idea of waking up early and being alone wasn't really pushed to the boundaries that it could be and the story played it conveniently safely so that everything worked out alright in the end. I enjoyed it, probably watch it again at some point.
Tossers like Umbragom who are going around the boards posting nonsense about it being a rape film and other people being studio shills should be ignored. The latest season of South Park truly highlighted what sad troll idiots exist on message boards and within social media.
