Fashion : Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

I have an event coming up this weekend, and I decided to look for an appropriate new handbag. It's been a long time since I have been in the market for one, and I was so annoyed to find that almost all companies have their logo, or the designer's name, emblazoned on the front. It's either etched into a piece of metal, or features the name in individual metal letters. They all look as if any attempt to remove these eyesores would leave an even uglier mark.

The better the quality of the bag, or the better known the name (both meaning more expensive), the more obvious this little bit of advertising is. Some of the bags that I saw (NOT that I would buy) , were well over $200.00. I will not pay to serve as a billboard.

I know that many clothing companies, especially in casual/sportswear, have long worked their logo into the design of garments. I'm not wild about that, either ... but, if need be, I can live with it on Tee shirts and jeans. That's a far cry from expecting a little discretion in a small evening bag.

Re: Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

i've always hated that too! Beyond tacky!

Ne moi faites pas votre ennemi!

Re: Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

I abhor clothing that has writing on it.

Putting a label on a thing to show how expensive it is is gauche, Trimalchionian vulgarity.

Discretion is the essence of taste.

But I can act even what I must abhor,
And champion human fears

Then get something more toned down. Coach, Kate Spade and Michael Kors are both great brands that offer quite a selection of leather handbags that don't have the brand name monogrammed all over every inch of the bag. All brands, however, at least have the brand name printed or engraved SOMEWHERE on the bad, though. That's just how it is. You might just have to live with that part.

Be thankful for every new day!

Perhaps not "all over every inch of the bag," as some brands that work initials into sole design that covers all of every item ... However, I asked in a Michael Kors store, in San Francisco, if they carry any bags without the name affixed to the outside of the item. The answer was "no."

Re: Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

All brands affix their logo somewhere to the outside of their bags. That's just part of it. It's really not that big of a deal. Try Coach. Sometimes their brand name is printed in small letters or it's embossed onto the bag - makes it less noticeable.

Re: Names and Logos on Clothing/Accessories

Well, you sent me to the cabinet where I keep purses. I concede that about half of my bags have some sort of subtle application of the brand name on the outside ... but not all. On a casual, or "everyday" bag I can live with a small embossment of a name in the leather, or on a zipper pull. Some of mine have identification on the inside of the flap, or on a "separator," on the inside. No problem. Many of them I'd never noticed, they were so subtle.

This was a very special occasion, and I was willing to pay the price for a new very good purse. Those are the ones that have the name, in shiny metal, affixed to a prominent place. There would be no way of removing it, without seriously marring the leather. That was consistently the case with the "better" bags.

I finally found one, at Macy's, that was the right size and fit the appearance that I wanted. It was, also, a fraction of the price. Given the few uses that this purse will get, with almost no wear-and-tear, I'm planning to use it for special occasions. (Nyah-nyah-naya, to the designers. )

Glad you were able to find one that you liked By the way, Fossil is a great brand, as well.

Be thankful for every new day!
