Economics, Business, Money, Finance : an Employment agency tried to charge me a $40 admin fee for the application form

an Employment agency tried to charge me a $40 admin fee for the application form

yeah thats right i would have had to pay for them to find me temp work. Is that shady af? should i have agreed to it? why should WE have to pay for the application forms they make us fill out?

No employment agency should charge its clients for services involved in finding them work but there was prolly some legal jumbo mumbo that said they could.

Fraudulent Employment agencies in UK charge exorbitant fees to job seekers

By Adam Smith Employment Correspondent For NewsGossipBull

London/UK - Dane McGraw was recently scammed by an Employment agency who tried to charge him "a $40 admin fee for the application form".

"yeah thats right i would have had to pay for them to find me temp work. Is that shady af? should i have agreed to it? why should WE have to pay for the application forms they make us fill out?", he says.

Employment fraud happens when a fraudster claims to be a recruitment agent, hiring you for a job – which can be in a foreign country - that doesn’t exist.

You place your CV or personal details on internet job sites so that potential employers can see them and, hopefully, offer you a job.

You’re contacted by someone claiming to be an employer or an employer’s agent to say they are considering you for a position. You’re asked to fill in a questionnaire and may be interviewed over the phone. You may also be referred to the employer’s website for further information.

Eventually, you’re told that you’ve been successful and the job is yours.

Once you have received the job offer, the fraudsters will contact you about arrangements. If the job is abroad, they will talk about arranging travel, accommodation and visas. You’ll be referred to an agency that, again, may have a website to give it credibility. The agency is supposed to help you with all your arrangements – for a fee.

When you pay one fee (eg: a visa administration fee), the agency will tell you about another fee that has to be paid (eg: a deposit on accommodation). In reality, the fraudulent agency makes none of these arrangements.

What’s more, the fraudsters may also ask for your bank account details to set up salary payments. They will use these details to steal money from your account.

Some employment fraudsters ask the applicant to pay a fee in order to apply for a job.
In reality, there is no job and any fees paid go straight to the fraudsters. Victims may already have given up their previous job and made new accommodation arrangements.

"No employment agency should charge its clients for services involved in finding them work but there was prolly some legal jumbo mumbo that said they could."

A police investigation is under way and the concerned agency has been informed of potential jailtime.

Re: an Employment agency tried to charge me a $40 admin fee for the application

well they dont really give us a choice, im an unskilled worker ( yeah, MY BAD ) so the only work i can get is general warehouse b/s. The only way to get a WH job these days is thru an agency. Nobody asked for them but they are everywhere.

Oh and btw, they dont work for US, they work for the companys that contract them to find them temp workers. The workers are just tools to them. plus they get paid for every worker they set up, so they aint working for ME and they aint doing it for free

ur stupid man. They dont do it out because they want us to have jobs, they are doing it because its how THEY get paid. They dont give a shit if you are happy in the job, just as long as you get paid so they can get paid. They take a certain percent of out paycheck every week so why the fuck should we pay for the application form? and why does an application form cost $40?
