Silence : Favorite Scene from Silence?

Favorite Scene from Silence?

Mine would have to be the Rodrigues/Garpe reuinion when Garpe tries to save the villagers. Really well executed and emotional scene.

Agree. Really emotional scene. Such a great movie.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

The end. Yawn.

You are the man, moviemanCin! Kudos.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

Tbh the more I think about it, the more I loved how Scorsese handled the final Apostitization scene. Truly brilliant. I thought it was one of those things that couldn't be filmed after reading the novel but it was done really well imo.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

Mine were probably all the boat scenes of Andrew by himself with the villagers.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

I agree with you. It was my first thought when I read your question.
The great symbolism of the Japanese guys applying pressure only to the woman they were drowning as Garrpe willingly kills himself to attempt to save her wasn't lost on me.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

The high tide scene. It was the main focus of the film really and it had shades of Scorcesses other film Last Temptation of Christ. I think the biggest problem of the film was that it didn't really shift perspective of the devout Japanese Christians, or at least it seldom did. Granted, it's from the book and the script was all over the place but when that scene came, it made noise over the silence.

Re: Favorite Scene from Silence?

When Garfield started laughing after seeing Jesus' face in the reflection of the creek, and then the Japanese Governor stepped behind him. Made me laugh, made me cringe, made me feel suspense/thrill, and it scared me at the same time.
