Westworld : I only use IMDB for the message boards

I only use IMDB for the message boards

otherwise wikipedia is easier than coming here. i think imdb will see traffic go wayyy down once the message boards are gone.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

Same here, I'll probably delete my account entirely after boards are closed.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

Me too. If accounts are left, that is. If you can't talk to other people, what is the use of an account?

I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

I rate movies just so I know that I've seen them. There are a lot of forgettable, mediocre movies. I would hate to watch a movie like that twice. So, I won't delete my account.
That being said, I live on these message boards. Whether to see different perspectives, or just have an ambiguous ending explained. I rarely post, because I don't want to argue with trolls. But, I come on here after every movie I watch, and after every episode of the shows I watch.
If it's a great movie/TV show, I have the message board saved to my favorites, so I can check up on them. I'm actually kind of addicted to them. I click on them, without even thinking about it.
I am in utter shock that they are getting rid of the message boards.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

exactly! i visit several boards each day (this one is one of them) because of everything from a movie still being new and relevant, a tv show airing a new episode (gives us a week to discuss and predict). The conversation is often eyeopening and always exciting. Ill be sad when GOT comes back and I can't go to the boards:(

i think the issue is that in downtime between seasons, the boards often fall to OT topicswhat else can you expect? doesn't mean it doesnt bounce right back to relevancy when the show is airing!

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

I agree, I do use the rating system as well so I won't delete my account. However, losing the message forums is a big disappointment, this has really been my go-to place to discuss movies and TV series for 12 years. I have met a lot nice posters over the years and have enjoyed the debates and discussions.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

I don't think I'll come back here very often. Not every single day as I usually do. Not sure if I'll delete my account. I'll hold out hope the boards will come back someday.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

I do like IMDb still for keeping track of things that i watch, i just like having a personal archive to look back into.
I wont be shipping over every title into Rotten Tomatoes anytime soon, unless IMDb is going to change things there too.

Apparently they do want traffic to go wayyy down, because they see their servers getting clogged up with hateful posts, wasteful space and bandwidth, because i doubt they wanted to close the boards if the general tone of it was peaceful and helpful.
Theres a guy on this board and on Doctor Strange posting the same negative stuff and having suicidal talks, i get into a discussion with those people easily, not to fight, but just discussing things. But i would have no problem with it if those threads were deleted, because they have no place here, calling them Off Topic doesnt really grant opening to such depressions.
I still say they should(ve) hired more moderators, because people need to learn some etiquette sometimes, it could have helped it to rise above the average.

IMDb to me, will really feel like a shadow of its former self after the 20th.

I skip reading the bottom line, because it is usually some lame signature.

For the most part, they are peaceful and helpful. Big shows like Westworld and films like Doctor Strange are ALWAYS going to attract the trolls, because huge audience.

For for we true film buffs, watching a lot of stuff means going to forums for films that aren't (or are not anymore) so huge, so the discussions are much more on-topic and mostly civil.

That's the real value we're missing. And for those of us that use ignore-lists and know how to not open conversations with stupid titles, we're not burdened with trolls or attention grabbers.

Brevity is the soul of wit.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

We should all delete our accounts in protest :(

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

Yeah I mainly just come onto IMDb for the message boards and I do it after I watch any movie or tv show of interest. I don't post but I like to read other's thoughts. I think it's ridiculous that IMDb is shutting down their message board. They do so at their own risk bc I know I barely will be on IMDb anymore. You can just use Wikipedia for any film or cast info. IMDb was just notable for their message boards. This is totally going to backfire on them lol.

Re: I only use IMDB for the message boards

It is a tradition that every time I have watched a new episode of a TV-show I'm following, like Lost, Westworld or Game of Thrones and so on, I go to the boards to discuss the latest episode and talk about theories and clues. That time will soon be over.
