Westworld : How does voice control works?
Re: How does voice control works?
i think bernard was originally only supposed to respond to ford, but maeve was able to give herself that capability maybe? but i also pointed out that voice controls seem to only be half about the word, and half about the intent behind the word, as if the hosts systems can sense if a word is a command.
'There's just a possibility that I will kiss a doorknob.'
Just call me Sleight

Re: How does voice control works?
Thank you! (Spoiler Alert)I could never get a grasp of how the whole voice command system works seeing as that Bernard was a host all along and was susceptible to voice commands hisself. Is the show expecting me to believe that Bernard who was around endless staff members saying the command that he too would not go into analysis mode like how he did when Ford said it to him?

Special adminstrative priviligessimple.
No, guests cannot use these voice controlsas that would totally ruin the gameplay and remove any risk of injury. Westworld is about taking risks, its not about it being Disneyland and super safe. Theres gonna be some Harambe moments. Take care.

Thats all very well in practice, but does it work in theory?
Re: How does voice control works?
Yes the voice control is used only by certain people.

Re: How does voice control works?
So bots are people with control, like Maeve. But guests cannot freeze bots. Doesn't seem sporting.

Mmmmm, frozen bots with sprinkles :-)

LOL only the best from Botsberry Farm. You sir, may have that concession.
Re: How does voice control works?
Maeve is a host that was hacked, and she was put on a special narrative, with special priveliges.

Well I've got WW reservations next week so there just better be a good orientation and guidebook - in Jurassic Park I almost lost an arm trying to have my picture taken with a very tall Cast Member in a very ugly Donald Duck costume!!
Re:
What about "Jedi powers"? A QA Recovery Team retrieving Hosts who are significantly deviating from script would merely need to intone:
"These are the droids we're looking for. 'Stop going about your business and don't move along'
Or the shorter version: "Simon (Quarterman) Says" :-)

[WW is] not about (it) being Disneyland and super safe.

Re: How does voice control works?
But Westworld is not directly comparable to Disneyland. It's aimed at adults. Yes, things like skydiving, base-jumping, hunting, hang-gliding, all have dangerous and even life-threatening risks. Which is why only adults should engage in those activities.
There's a level of safety that guests can expect in Westworld guns are designed to be harmless to guests, and the hosts are programmed not to be able to harm guests.. but other than that, the park is STILL a "raw" world with dangers of its own.
It's not Disneyland.
Edit to add Disneyland, where 21 guests have died since it opened in 1955, and which is hit with nearly 100 lawsuits every year due to guest injuries. so, yeah.. DO be careful around ol' Donald.
Sometimes fires don't go out when you're done playin' with them.

So in Season 2 how come there's a statue of Dr. Ford holding Dolores' hand in Sweetwater's main square?

Re: How does voice control works?
Ford himself uses hand and finger gestures to affect hosts. Yes, he is using the force :)
When Nolan pitced the premise of Westworld to Anthony Hopkins, he described it as "Disneyland with Dr Frankenstein running it"
Hopkins accepted on the spot.

How does voice control works?
Like Thandie controlled Bernard with "Freeze" and unfroze him with "Now" (episode 9 i think).
Like.. it's so easy for someone to randomly say "Freeze all motors" and suddenly freeze a host.
Some of the vocal control words are way too much and are everyday use. Does it recognize the caller's voice?
