I have just seen the blu ray of the burning plain. I knew that it didn't have a very good critical reaction so I wasn't expecting much.
So I have to say how pleasantly surprising how good I thought the film was. I already knew about the different timelines so I wasn't confused on that front but the performances by Jennifer was remarkable. She captures a confused teen perfectly showing many different sides to Mariana's romantic attachment, her disillusion with her mother and ultimately her crippling guilt.
I also have to state how impressive I thought was Charlize Theron was she is such a fearless actress and gave such a interesting turn to the older Mariana.

Glad you liked it! The mixed-up timelines are probably what caused a lot of the criticism, just because there's no clear marking of time in any of the three. I didn't have a clue what was going on until about an hour in the first time I watched it.

Yes, Jennifer was remarkable. Another stunning performance given before anybody (but Charlize Theron and Lori Petty) knew who she was. My favorite story from that movie is Charlize and Guillermo Arriaga talking about the casting process with her.

I loves this movie though it made me quite confusing the connections of the three ladies in the first 25 minutes. I was touched by the story. Theron and Jennifer's performance were amazing.

I saw lovely pictures of them at the Oscar and wondered if they would make another movie together?!

Here, her least-accessible film is Poker House. You can find only some (quite expensive) US imports. Burning Plain was cheap and easy to find.

I absolutely love it because of the way the story unfolds. I was lucky enough not to be spoiled, so I had the opportunity to find out myself that Charlize and Jennifer are the same person. Also the time jumps where not confusing at all, if you paid attention.

Favorite scene: visually, the stunning view of the sea from Charlize's restaurant.
Also, the explosion scene was really intense (thanks to Jennifer).
Least favorite: the scene Jen killed that bird. It just felt stupid.

The non-continuity of the movie was to me the best and, at the same time, the worst thing about Jennifer's role. It was the best because we learned about her step by step. The worst, because many of her actions, before we learn about her implication to the fire, seem inexplicable and stupid.

I watched it before reading anything about it. So when I got to check IMDB rating and critics, it was a really unpleasant surprise. The movie was not hard to follow at all. It is weel made and it deals with important themes in a quite original and smart way. What more could I ask for from a movie?

Yeah I know.
The problem is, English is not my native language.
Subtitles are a great help to watch a movie without rewinding every now and then to re-listen and understand the dialog.
Poker House is the only Jennifer's movie that was never imported to my country (and maybe whole Europe) so there are no subtitles.
That's what I meant.

I have found it and watched it with English subtitles.
It's not the same but it's better than nothing.

Anyway, it's the only Jennifer's movie I had to watch that way.
That's why I said that, to me, Poker House is her least accessible movie.

I watched it unspoiled too. Unfortunately, the time jumps were confusing to me because there were no clear indications that one part of the story was taking place 10-12 (can't remember the daughter's age) earlier.....probably due to location. For that reason, I found it much more enjoyable on rewatch.

To me, the indications where the actors/characters themselves.
For example, if you saw Charlize's character, her daughter or Calros, you knew it was the present.
Kim Basinger or Joaquim de Almeida indicated the pre-explosion past.
And Santiago (JD Pardo) and his family indicated the post-explosion past.

Sure, it would be easier if there where some obvious indications/signs. But luckily I didn't get confused.

In hindsight yes. All of that is obvious. But how did you know that Mariana's daughter and Carlos were part of the present when they first appeared. Unless........are you clairvoyant?

Jennifer's performance in this movie is one of my favorites! The last scene where she was kissing Goodbye the baby and leaving is one of the highlights for me!

Also she did win a very prestigious award named after one of the most acclaimed actors of all time which is the Marcello Mastroianni award! :D

I had just seen this little indie film not to long ago, and Jennifer was just fantastic in it! During the movie I had a feeling she's maybe be responsible for her mom's death. But call me stupid. I did not see her being the young version of Charlize Theron's character. It wasn't til the end I put it all together. It was almost like a Romeo and Juliet love story. Except neither of them dies.

The official "Bumper-in-Chief" Topsy has been a no show lately so count me in as one of the many other bumpers.
