Star Trek: The Next Generation : When data installed his emotion chip

When data installed his emotion chip

do you think he had access to his early memories that Juliana Tainer spoke of in the episode Inheritance?

"You expect to break me? Impossible! You broke me years ago. You killed me years ago...."

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

I'm 99% sure I remember Data saying something about his memory being wiped before he was deactivated and left on the surface of Omicron Theta. So I doubt he had access to any memory previous to being discovered and reactivated. But I also recall Soong or perhaps Lore saying something about the chip being more than just for emotions, that there were memories as well.

I have a brain and good taste, so no, I'm not part of the target demographic.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

That's all pretty much what happened.

Data did have memories of his initial activation and most likely interactions with the colony, but they were wiped out before the Crystaline Entity drained the planet. Soong then made the chip, only mentioning it contained emotions, since he felt Data was ready to handle all of them (Could also be because the old man knew his days were numbered and wanted to finalize his work before he kicked the bucket).
It was Lore, however, who told Data that the chip also contained memories during Descent II. Can't remember when he said it, maybe towards the end when he was still trying to manipulate Data, but that's when the memory part of the chip came up.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

I thought Data was activated after the colony was already destroyed. I must have not paid much attention even if Data is my favorite character.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

He was better without emotions. The emotion chip was lame.

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Robert Vaughn. RIP Carrie Fisher. RIP William Christopher. 2016 is the worst!

At last, CJ! Something you and I can 100% agree on!

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

It was bound to happen.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

He was reactivated by the Star Fleet officers who went out to Omicron Theta after the colony was destroyed. That's also when Bruce Madox first met Data and began his intense interest in cybernetics(?).

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

I think Bruce Maddox wants to experience "how fully functional" Data is.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

Gay robot jokes, Nex. You're better than that.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

Data is gay haven't you ever noticed how he looks at Wesley that I don't know who I found more disturbing The Traveler or Data.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

The actor that played the Traveler was up for the role of Data. Could you imagine?

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

I honestly don't know. Great moment in the series, though.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

That is the point the moment wasn't in the series it was in the movie Generations when Data installed the emotion chip(which looked nothing like the emotion chip from the series where it was small and tiny while this had the size of an entire processor). It was the moment when Data started acted goofy with dumb jokes, profanity, getting scared sh!tless, singing annoying songs when at the control desk an uttering utterly cringeworthy dialogue such as "saddle up lock and load".

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

The chip definitely could have been left out! It took away Data's invincibility where he allowed Geordi to be taken since he was too afraid to do anything about it in one of the movies! Is it worth going on a mission with him if he can't even protect himself?

Super lame.

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

What bothers me is the changing appearance of the emotion chip itself, from when it was taken out of Lore's body after he possessed it in "Descent" (it was a tiny sliver of metal, from what I could see) to when Data finally made the decision to install it, with Geordi's assistance (it was much bigger, the size of a boiled sweet, but all silvery and detailed on the surface) - why change its look so drastically? Budgetary limits for props?

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

Re: When data installed his emotion chip

Yup. It was little a chip the first time. After that, it needed its own postal code. Lol.

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Barbara Hale. You were great in Perry Mason. RIP William Christopher.
