The Magicians : Why didn't Martin kill both gods?

Why didn't Martin kill both gods?

Why only kill one and trap the other? It's also weird because Renard seems to be more powerful than Ember or Umber were.

Re: Why didn't Martin kill both gods?

Well in the books..

heh

In both the book and the series Reynard is in the mundane world and doesn't live in Fillory. He's actively malicious, while Ember and Umber aren't. They aren't an ultimate Godheadjust the latest iteration in a line of little gods that are reborn out of the former one/ones every so often a millennia. (It's turtles all the way down).

In the book Umber is only hiding. That, and people tend to forget about him. In the series he's probably hiding in the land of "we can't afford another actor."

In the book Martin offered his humanity to Umber in exchange for greater powerit wasn't just drinking the water that did it. Umber lives on the flip side of Fillory which doesn't play that much of an obvious role in things except for being a place for Julia to disappear between. The two probably represent the two sides of the human brain. I have no idea what they'll do with him in the series because it's kinda way better than the books.
