Saoirse Ronan : Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

Personally I like the trajectory she's on right now. I'd like for her to be in a big awards movie at the end of the year most every year (as opposed to little indies) and she seems to have a couple of those in the works with Mary Queen of Scots and On Chesil Beach. But I'd like it if she could really run the gamut of big A-list directors of those type movies in the coming years.

I hope she doesn't tie herself down to a franchise, but one more commercial thing I'd like to see her do would be a big, glossy romantic drama with a major leading man. That would really help to shed the vestiges of the "child actor" image.

What do you guys think?

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

I want her to be more well know, also without tying herself to a franchise, like you said, it would be cool if she played a villain or a character who shines, but dies at the end of one of those big movies.

I also want her working with A-list directors, Aronofsky, Coen Brothers, Scorcese, Tarantino, Lynch and so on. With auteurs too, like Kristen Stewart.

Also would like too see her in more comedies and even a musical.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

I guess Brooklyn was a small glossy romance. A romance would be fine, I'm a sucker for them. A smart one, like When Harry Met Sally, would be nice, a star-making one, like Pretty Woman, would be fun, but those roles don't just grow on trees. But an engrossing story with Saoirse as a go-getter and romance on the side. That would be special. Julia Roberts comes to mind again, something Erin Brokovitchian.
I'm not really a fan of Jennifer Lawrence, but she, as one of the highest of the A-Listers, has pretty much her choice of roles. Emma Stone is getting there.
But I'd like her to keep her indie cred, too, so I don't really know. I guess I need to be surprised.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

I was picturing something that might be a period romance, but somewhat poppy and with elaborate production values. So I guess something like Brooklyn again, but bigger and with flashier presentation.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

I would like to see Saoirse in:

TV Series

The X-Files reboot - as Dana Scully. This time set in England and substituting the Illuminati for aliens, and keep it to five seasons tops.

TV Mini-Series

Middlemarch - as the lead character Dorothea Brooks. This Period Drama is better than 'Pride and Prejudice' in my opinion and it was last filmed in 1994.

Brooklyn - yep redo the film but this time as a mini-series and make it grittier with more of the story from the book. I would like to see Eilish be less of a naive saint and more of a young woman who learns and grows and becomes a player in her own right by the end.

The Singing Detective - as Nurse Mills one of the main characters who looks after Philip Marlow during his stay in hospital. This was last made as a mini-series back in 1986 and it is a drama/musical so the bonus would be that Saoirse would get to do a couple of song and dance routines.

Films

The Party - a remake of the Peter Sellers comedy with Saoirse playing the Sellers role as an accident prone young woman trying to break in to the film biz.

The con artist and, especially, the country singer would be really cool roles.(An irish actress playing a country singer )

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

I know a lot of people here like to harp on a Hanna sequel, but it's not like the first one tore it up at the BO and I don't ever hear people talk about it outside of here.

I could see her playing a con woman in a thriller, though. That could be good.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

They should have done a Hanna/Jason Bourne mash up film in 2012. Hanna would have slotted right in to the Bourne story line with a little tweaking here and there.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

My hope is she pretty much stays the course and continues with prestige-type projects, the ones more likely to receive award recognition. However, I'd be fine with her doing something of a high profile nature regardless of the genre.

The potential issue with a romantic film by a major studio concerns recognizability. In other words, if a project calls for a young leading lady, the studios seem to go to the try and true in the Amanda Seyfried vein. They are usually looking for someone with a bit higher profile.

BTW, has anyone seen La La Land yet?

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

No. Have you?

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

Yes, and it's an easy recommend jlent. This is a rare kind of film these days 238 given the genre has almost completely disappeared. And I'm not referring to those somewhat popular ones where college women get involved in performance competitions.

The director's passion is so evident in each and every frame, and I was bombarded (in a good way) with such a rich and vibrant color palette throughout the film. The narrative is very simple and time tested, but you're drawn into the characters quickly and of course are really pulling for them a b68 s they attempt to "realize their dreams" while maintaining their relationship.

It's too bad we have to wait for the end of the year (or close) to watch such quality films. Stone in particular is perfect for the role because of her own true life story. What a fit. She emotes beautifully while Gosling is good but a bit muted as is his way.

The last ten minutes wrap up the story very powerfully (no spoilers!) with a dazzling dream, fantasy montage. Go, go, go.

It's my pick to win the Oscar, sight unseen.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

Putting aside the Sag snub for ensemble-it's basically a two person show-I don't doubt it could win at all.

Re: Where Do You Hope Her Career Goes in the Next 5+ Years?

Is Gosling once again employing his full acting repertoire of having a blank expression on his face while at the same time standing completely still...?

Well, he kind of does his thing.
