Saoirse Ronan : Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I made a new thread as the other one was really long.

Has this been posted? A nice long 36 interview from Tiff

DP/30 @ TIFF 2015: Brooklyn, Saoirse Ronan, John Crowley

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Saoirse is to receive an award....already....

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Nice to see what is hopefully the first of many awards for Saoirse and Brooklyn this season, though the name "New Hollywood Award" makes me laugh a bit. I have to remind myself that not everyone knows Saoirse's talent and résumé as well as we do. It's a little late, but I guess welcome to Hollywood Saoirse!

Wonder how many more newcomer awards she'll receive like that. Time will tell. At least this awards season should hopefully fully establish her name (and its spelling/pronunciation if we're lucky).

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

True. They gave her a great nom when she was 13. This sounds to me like an anticipatory type of award.

I actually think it makes sense. Yes, Saoirse has a very impressive resume so far. But most of the achievements are part of her child/teenage career, which is a separate thing. So Brooklyn can definitely be considered the breakout role of her adult career.

By the way, I think that Saoirse has the chance to become the youngest two time Oscar nominee ever. At least I can't think of anyone else who achieved this at age 21.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Hello pan. Saoirse would be the second youngest ever because Angela L 2000 andsbury was a bit younger when she snagged her second. It would be quite an achievement nonetheless.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Saoirse would be the second youngest ever because Angela Landsbury was a bit younger when she snagged her second.

Ah, right. But maybe she can become the youngest actress to receive two times an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination in the same year. It would basically be a continuation of a previous record she already established for her role in Atonement.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

That's impressive. Perhaps she will achieve some additional records considering her Brooklyn performance has a real chance at a number of major nominations.

Look who attended the Brooklyn premiere at the NYFF:

Perhaps he'll select her to star in his next picture.

Oh, sorry. Wes Anderson.

Oh okay, he did look a little familiar.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

This might be news many of us were hoping for regarding a certain project :

“And there’s a lot of great female directors actually, that are finally coming to the surface that I’ve had meetings with,” she says, “and I’m working with one next year that I’m really excited about. One of those women! (Laughs.) But it’s exciting to finally, I mean, 90% of the directors I’ve been working with have been male and they’ve been incredible… but it would be really nice to work with more women in the future, and I can feel that that’s starting to happen.”

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Wow I really hope you're right 😄

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I'm not 100%, but aside from working with A. Heckerling and N. Beckwith, the only other female director she has been reported to be linked to is S. Bier. They had scouted out locations in Scotland some time ago for Mary Queen of Scots. It was being developed by the terrific U.K. production company Working Title Films. So, must likely Saoirse actually gave us a big tip off yesterday.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

She worked with Gillian Armstrong also on Death Defying Acts. Bier would be a coup.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I forgot Armstrong. I've loved some of Bier's work even though it can be a bit soapy. She is a good entertainer.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

It does sound promising, but I'll believe it when I see it. I'm thinking Saoirse will have clout after Brooklyn. Man, I'm glad she got The Host monkey off her back.

Meanwhile, hadn't heard this before:

On the red carpet the director told me about plans to spin off “Brooklyn” into a television show that, “there’s a plan in the pipeline” but it was very early and no names were attached yet for the cast. “We’re trying to get this out in the field first,” Crowley told me, adding that he might get involved as well. “It’s a great idea and everybody is intrigued by it.”

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Yes, I read that yesterday. 20 for 20 now on RT.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

So Brooklyn can definitely be considered the breakout role of her adult career.

I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed in Brooklyn. Several of her other movies have been better.

I respect your opinion, but I guess you are in the minority when it comes to this.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I recently watched "Morgan" at the cinema and especially enjoyed the initial two thirds of the film before it devolved into "nearly everyone is going to die now" action-type finish. Anya Taylor-Joy was good in the title role.

Yes, it's not surprising that Saoirse is starting to become a real role model among other young actresses.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Although Joe and Jane Popcorn couldn't pick her out of a lineup, she's been a critics' darling since the beginning of her career, and those who love and follow film certainly know her quite well. In addition, it goes without saying she is highly regarded within the industry especially among her acting peers.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Really cool she got to meet Saoirse!

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

The Playlist named Saoirse's performance in Atonement as one of the best performances by a child actor of the 21st century so far:

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I really don't get all the love for Saoirse's performance in 'Atonement' when she was so much better in a larger role in 'Death Defying Acts'. And yet no-one ever mentions that film or Saoirse's part in it!

And I think DDA was a much better film than 'Atonement' anyway. But it's like DDA was somehow never made while people go on and on about 'Atonement' which I thought was a pretty ordinary film. It's maddening!

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Wow. Pretty impressive.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

I think it would be great to create a topic just for pictures and interviews, don't you agree?

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

There's an awful lot of photos out there, and a fair number of fan sites hosting them. It might get a bit crowded here with photos, but interviews sound fine.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

yeah you should make one. these Brooklyn threads are way overcrowded.. it would be nice if this board was more categorized.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/N.Y. Times article about Saoirse

There is nothing new here, just a summation of her story. Oh, and it's (Sir-sha), not (Seer-sha). What are you going to do?

http://tinyurl.com/obhj86k

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/N.Y. Times article about Saoirse

I'm going to cut the Times some slack here. Seer-sha is how most Irish pronounce it (I even hear Sor-sha is acceptable.) Director Crowley kept calling her Seersha at the NYFF. I think we're going to hear a lot of "Seershas" in the coming weeks with all the Irish promotion.

BTW, I saw this article earlier and, though thrilled it was the NY Times, thought, damn, this should be in the Sunday Times, not the Thursday paper. But then I noticed the little addendum in small print the article will appear in print in Sunday's paper. All's right with the world.

They do the same thing with her mane.

It IS a beautiful mane. (Sorry, I resisted as long as I could.) 😃

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

I like this snippet from Gold Derby's Thelma Adams article on Brie Larson (Gold Derby's present BA fav).

Oscar newbies might think “Brie WHO? She’s nobody – she can’t possibly win.” Not true. The Oscars have a long history of suddenly pointing the spotlight on a blossoming ingénue. Larson fits the bill -- although she may have competition in "Brooklyn"'s Saoirse Ronan.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Thanks for that zorro. My guess is the films and performances are radically different, but what each actress accomplished can still reach a great level despite the said differences. I'll be watching this weekend for the results of Room's expansion to 20 markets because I have a suspicion that it might not play well when you are dealing with those individuals who don't normally attend film festivals. I just feel Brooklyn is a more viewer friendly film.

BTW, what is this Twitter chatter from Ireland concerning her accent? Are some people just jealous They should be proud of her instead of bitching about her accent whether Carlow or Dublin like.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Some are trolls, but many are just ignorant, most likely never having heard her speaking naturally before.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

So small of them.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Thanks for the links zorro. It's really a great compliment considering she was as big female star to emerge from Ireland.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation/WSJ article about Saoirse….

Allow me to go overboard. It's more than just a great compliment, it's as great an accolade as could be imagined. I was hoping this would happen. Maureen O'Hara was the single most famous Irish actress to make it in Hollywood EVER.
To hand the mantle to Saoirse is legend-making.

Re: Saoirse's News Summary Continuation

We're seen some of what's in here before, but never quite as in depth as this excellent piece - with some great accompanying photos.

Thanks for the link to this excellent article.

Post Hanna and up until Brooklyn but excluding TH, her films weren't the kind to garner much major media attention. This is a totally different situation with regard to the quality of the film and the first-rate distributor:

Re: Saoirse at the Savannah Film Festival….

Thanks zorro. Are you aware of Scott Feinberg's reaction when he finally screened Brooklyn at Toronto? Of course he doesn't vote, but for those who like to pay attention to what's going on come awards' season, his through the roof reaction to the film and Saoirse's performance can only help bring a bit more visibility to the project.

I love that last tweet and will now appropriate it for the Review/Reaction thread.
