Star Trek Continues : Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

Disclaimer: I am only a casual Star Trek fan. I've seen all of them over the past 40 years or so. I don't keep track of canon, and I am no fanboy. I know there's some conflict between the two series. I don't know what it's about. It bares no weight on my opinions.

My website experiences.

To start with. I go to ST Continues, and there's a simple website with EVERYTHING in one place ready to view. Easy to find functional links. An integrated flash viewer that gets along well with all my computers. It's very professional looking. The website is just a really nice front-end to the operation. One thing I would like to see is HiRes downloadable links. I guess they don't want us keeping their files.

The complete opposite for New Voyages. The New Voyages website is a mess. First off, it feels old. A maze of links, some old, some not working. It's extremely busy, and hard to navigate. Not to mention all linked mirror sites that are just horrible. They offer episode download links, but not hosted by the home website. They link to a dozen other messy websites. Some not working, some full of broken links. Then to find an episode, there will be a dozen different versions. Director's cuts, older versions, newer versions, MKV, Xvid, different resolutions, various quality DVDs. It all feels a little bootleggy, You have no idea what you're even downloading.

Between the two series. I know New Voyages has been around far longer, but when I watch ST Continues, I feel like I'm watching a real TV show. Acting, seamless production values and so on. New Voyages just still misses that mark. It feels amateurish, like a stage play or something. The website is a reflection of that.

Episodes for download is one of the perks at the Indiegogo fundraiser that is going on at the moment, to collect money to film more episodes. There are also scripts and wallpapers available and other nice stuff. I like especially the coins. Maybe you want to have a look?

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

I just kicked in 5 bucks.
The downloads are for wallpapers, not full eps. I had already gotten the last few eps in HD on EZTV.
I can't stream HiDef from Hulu or YouTube with Verizon DSL speeds. So I have to download.

I saw they claimed to have over 4 million views. If they set up an exclusive pay site, and charged everyone a measly dollar or two for unlimited viewing of their content. They could make between 4 and 8 million dollars. Produce a whole series, and donate the rest to charity(to keep in line with non-profit status and access to the ST copyright).
While a tiny fee will inevitably deter a very few people from watching. The vast majority of people will most likely not even bat an eye at a buck or two. To badger fans for hundreds(or thousands) of crowdfunding dollars just seems like a crazy uphill battle.

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

Yeah, I don't think this would be practicable and maybe frowned upon by CBS as well. It's true though that if every fan just gave a couple we would easily match the goal.

The episodes for download start at the 70 Dollars level for three of them and 80 Dollars for all six. For 100 Dollar you get early viewing of the new episode. And at 200 Dollar you can get DVDs even.

It's certainly out of my price range as well but there are those for whom it is peanuts.

But every dollar helps so thanks! And you can also help by spreading the word and telling friends about the series.

LoL. When I read that sentence, PBS pledge drives immediately popped into mind.

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

I'm sorry, I'm from Germany - I have no idea what PBS pledge drives is?

Anyway, I'll be happy with the pillow made from the sickbay cloth, something unique not many others will have. I also got an used script and one of the coins. Can't wait for it all to get over here.

I really love what they are doing so I am happy to be a part of it.

The newest episode came out last weekend and I think it is very classic Star Trek. We saw it some weeks ago at the big screen at Fedcon, in the presence of Vic Mignogna himself. We had a great weekend with him and lots of time to chat as he isn't that famous over here. Really a wonderful guy!

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

PBS is a TV channel that is a commercial free, partially government funded and partially private donation funded. They focus on the arts, educational programming, documentaries and some vintage British programming.
A few times a year they have pledge drives where they will broadcast a heavily edited concert DVD or other artistic works on DVD. Then presenters will break in every 15 minutes asking for call-in donations with operators answering phones in the background.
Depending on what level you donate at, you get an item. At the $50 level you might get a PBS umbrella or tote bag. At $75 you may get a poster, at $100 you might get an un-cut CD or DVD of what's being shown. And so on. The donation level always grossly out weighs the value of the item, which is usually generally available anywhere.
But it's not about buying the item, it's about donating to the cause. If you ever heard of Sesame Street and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Those were PBS productions.

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

Ah, thank you very much! I had no idea.
And yes, in STC's case it is also about the cause of course. As they use the money to make more episodes. So if I want to see more, I have to do my part as well.

They also had Spock ears or costumes worn in previous episodes.

The only other crowdfunding I have been a part of before was for John Barrowman's new CD. For a high enough pledge, we were allowed to be in the studio while he recorded it. You can't be closer to your star and his emotions. Worth every penny!

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

Wow. ST-PH2 New Voyages main website is down and under construction, and a new international website has been established. I wonder if my post about their dated, broken website and poor quality international mirrors had anything to do with it.

Re: Websites. ST Continues and ST New Voyages.

yeah I started with new voyages, but when I saw the first continues ep,
then ep 2, it was clearly superior and more like the original show.
