Star Trek Continues : Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Each time I've seen a new episode of "Star Trek Continues," it had felt an awful lot like seeing an episode of original Trek that I had somehow missed or forgotten. The love the creators of STC have for TOS is evident in every frame they shoot. And I have to say that bringing in a mental health specialist seems a logical response to the events of the final episode of TOS.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Err...the only one who needed a mental health specialist was Lester, and I doubt she was staying on the ship very long.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

The ship has always had a doctor of psychiatry, going back to the first season of TOS.

The first season was so great at showing the depth of the crew, the amount of specialists in various fields, and how the entire complement was actually important to the running of the ship...

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Fine, then keep the one they had...Helen Noel.

But seriously, the ships counselor in TNG was there because the captain was such a private person. Picard had no confidant (which is why they tried to introduce Pulaski and then Guinan). Kirk did with McCoy and Spock. Pike did with Dr. Boyce. There is no great need for another regular character to fill this role. But like I said, if they're determined to have one, keep it in line with TOS and make her Helen Noel, certainly one of the most popular one off crew members from TOS.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

She hasn't been seen since Season 1, and this is Season 4. Theres just no reason to think she is necessarily still on the ship at this point. I would have been 100% okay with her in the role, or with this actress potraying Noel, but it doesn't bother me to think she got promoted or transferred, and this is her replacement, either.

I think I'm one of the only people that really like Pulaski on TNG. In my alternate universe, Pulaski stays on as Doctor, Picard stays a Borg, Riker gets the ship, and the show progresses with a Riker/Pulaski/Data triumvirate with a very dangerous series-long enemey in Picard/Locutus.

I also had a problem with Geordi going from the Helm to not just engineering, but CHIEF engineer, he never seemed qualified, and TNG's technobabble never helped.

Is he missing, or has he just lost interest?

Regardless, his contributions have been appreciated.

Re: You are missed bj

Yep. He's back. Work took him away to a galaxy far far away where there is no internet apparently....

Pulaski was added because they had let McFadden go and they needed someone to be doctor. Goldberg was added because Goldberg was a big star, she wanted to be on the show and they knew it would help ratings.

With a mental health specialist, the transposed Kirk and Lester might have been far more quickly detected...

Agreed. There are these moments with the Star Trek Continues episodes where I forget this is fan made and it feels like a professionally done Trek TV show.

"The love the creators of STC have for TOS is evident in every frame they shoot."

Yes, technically (lighting, sets, costumes, makeup, sound, music) this is a professional level Star Trek production which is much appreciated by me.

BB ;-)

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Same here. I watched ST-TOS reruns throughout my childhood, back when we only got 4 channels, before the time of VCRs, and Trek has a special place in my heart because of it. The love ST Continues has for the original -- from the pitch perfect music and costumes to the call-backs to previous episodes and the classic over-acting and moralizing -- makes watching this series feel like coming home. Making this a "season 4" also makes way for a few changes, like Dr. McKennah and the introduction of an early holodeck, as smoothly as possible.

Nobody could make a perfect callback to the original series, but this comes damn close. How wonderful, to live in a world with such technological advances that fans -- albeit quite talented fans -- can bring us back to the Enterprise of the 1960s.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

You really don't see the difference between this and the professional writers and actors who brought us Star Trek?
Very sad.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

Just finished watching "The White Iris" and "Divided We Stand" and yes, I found myself forgetting I was watching a fan made production. They have really worked out any kinks from their first three efforts. I sincerely hope they manage to achieve a twenty-two episode season out of Star Trek Continues.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

I believe the initial goal is 13.

I am really hoping one of the fan shows actually embarks on the 2nd 5YM, post TMP.

It will be hard, because the ship will barely be familiar, and there are no familiar beats, fonts, musical cues, etc.... and it will be extremely expensive to produce, what with needing TMP sets, which was the biggest budget Trek ever had. But man, it would be amazing to watch, if done in the right hands.

Its hard enough to mimic 60s era stuff that existed.... but to capture a truly 70s aesthetic of what *would* have been even though it never *actually* existed?

I can dream.... but... Vic isn't getting any younger.... and STC is great at promoting and fundraising.... fingers crossed.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

I totally agree with unclesatan. This feels like an old lost episode of Star Trek. I only have one question for unclesatan....what is TOS? I know that STC is for Star Trek Continues..

The Original Series.

Re: Like stumbling across a never-before-seen episode of Classic Trek…

I've just stumbled on it on Youtube today (the Lolani episode with the green girl). I saw this guy lounging in his quarters at the start and thought he was some kind of impersonator/imposter copying Kirk, so for a while I genuinely thought it was an original episode! The look of the outer ship at the very beginning just made me think it was the remastered version. I never knew it existed before- it maybe didn't get a lot of exposure in the UK. I'll be watching more for sure. (Not just for Michele Specht, PHEW :D)

Welcome new fan from Germany! Have you watched the other episodes in the meantime? Which is your favorite?

And do you already know about this? https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/star-trek-continues/x/13748749#/

Maybe there is something you want to have - autographs, scripbs, t-shirts? I hope we will get many more episodes but we have to reach the goal for them!
